partner had a accident a few weeks back, some eegit went into thee back of it on the M5 and it has since then been written off bu the insurance people. we've agreed to buy it back off them but they are saying we have to get it mot'd again (was only done in october) and take it to the dvla for a test of some sort to make sure it is roadworthy. all this for a slight bump to the back, which can be easily sorted with a new bumper and back lights!!!

They don't total vehicles for slight bumps, they total vehicles when the cost of repair is more than the worth of the vehicle. If you want to buy it back for salvage value, you now have a salvage vehicle which you can use for parts. If you want to fix it and sell or drive it, you will have to have it inspected and declared road worthy again. Parts if you don't want to do the inspection, or the test if you want to drive it. No middle ground.

Your call.

The reason they are having you buy it back is because the insurance company "tottaled" the vehicle, you likely have a bent frame and that is why you need to make repairs, show receipts for repairs and have the inspection done. If you do not, the vehicle will not be legally roadworthy.
