When I go online, my svchost.exe takes up a lot of CPU processing. I was wondering if I upgrade to Windows Vista will this still be a problem?

(This is a repost, because I made a mistake by making the question to be voted)

In short - yes. Installing Vista should fix the problem, and so should reinstalling/System Restoring Windows XP.

It sounds like to me that you either have a Trojan virus (a virus that disguises itself as a valid Windows process) using svchost.exe, or something not as malignant using svchost.exe. Both are entirely possible.

My personal recommendation is to System Restore XP. If that fails, reinstall XP completely. That should fix any and all problems.

However, f you are really set on Vista - it does use up **a lot** of system resources (RAM, CPU etc) anyway - so make sure your computer is good enough before doing such a thing. Check here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx and see if your computer is compatible.

Vista may call it something different, but surfing the web is still going to eat processor time. Overall, Vista will use MORE processor time than XP.

svchost.exe is just a thing that does other functions. Its not a problem at all.

think you better clean the bugs out first, an upgrade wont do it.get some online scans to see why it runs high.
