Me (very blonde) complete with 5 yr old boy like to sit for hours (20mins) on the bank of a large lake stocked with lots of types of fish, and catch nothing! Most dissapointing but still we go and still we look forward to going (5yr old more so) PLEASE can anyone tell us what the average fish would like to eat that is a simple fool proof way to catch ANYTHING AT ALL?????

Good old fashioned Earthworms or Maggots will catch practically anything....... Perch, Trout, Bream, Roach, Chubb, you name it. Stick one on a size14 hook.

A favourite trick of mine is to snip the end off the worm, so a scent trail to attract the fish ouzes out of it into the water.

The main secret to it working is patience........ it took me a few years to figure this one out. In my early years of fishing (like when I was about 5 - 12ish), I used to kinda reel in every few mins to see if I'd caught anything yet. I eventually latched onto the fact you stand more chance of catching something if you patiently wait like 10 - 15mins at a time for indication of a bite (twitching rod tip, float dipping, or the line starts to move). If you've not had a bite for 15-20mins reel in and put a fresh bait on. If you stick at this, you should catch within 1½ - 2hour session.

The other main secret is stealth....... it doesn't take much to spook a fish, since sound (via vibrations) travels at least 5 times faster + further underwater than it does on land. Casting your shadow over the water doesn't help much either.

A really excellant book that will help you learn alot about fishing is "John Bailey's Complete guide to Freshwater fishing"

actually the trick is to try to find out when they stock the lake. if you can time your fishing trip for right after the fish are planted, it'll be almost impossible not to catch something- just a worm on a bobber should do the trick.

hatchery fish also respond to the sound of the food pellets dropping into the water- it's like pavlov's dog responding to the dinner bell. you can mimic this sound by throwing a handful of corn, rice, pebbles, or whatever you have handy into the water. sometimes that will help draw the hungry fish to your lines!

your best bet of catching fish with your 5 yr old boy is catching sunfish those are the easiest and funniness fish to catch for young kids, all you have to use is a bobber and a small hook and a lil bet of worm and fish on. all you have to do is look for them in the lake, you should find a school of them swiming around by the banks or by tree stump that were they hang out. your boy will have a blast and he will start to love fishing. Good luck and happy fishing

Take a slice of bread... rip out a chunk (not the crust), make it in to a ball... use some spit from your mouth on it to give it a consistency... and then put a little of the dough on the hook. Otherwise go to the fish tackle shop and buy some maggots.

BTW - unless your going for fish such as carp, you need a float on the line (with a weight either side), and when the float gets pulled under the water it means you have a bite from a fish.

The most common fish your likely to catch would either be Roach or Perch.
The best bait for this would be simple white maggot or worm.
Bottom feed the worm or maggot (Led the line heavily enough so that the trace sinks to the bottom, leaving the bait line to freely float in the current) and you should be catching loads of them.

A roach is silvery in colour and a perch is orange striped.
But be carefull. the perch has spines down its fin, so be carefull when grabbing it.

because I stay in catfish united states of america, i'm able to inform in simple terms be searching on the beef even if a catfish is wild or farm raised. Wild catfish has a whitish, flaky look, with small darkish veins in it. It also has a particularly sweet style to it. Farm raised, on the different hand, has a translucent, tender look to it. the beef also has a cool scent and style. wager what they feed farm raised catfish? different catfish parts - skins, fins, bones, guts, etc. all floor up and pressed into small cubes. To this they inject steroids and different chemical substances to cause them to strengthen quickly and massive. No ask your self they style so undesirable. Catfish is a low high quality fish besides. Farm raising lowers the commonly used even extra.
