If you haven't experienced it, you can't understand it. Especially if you learn about second-hand from others who have never done it.

There is no enjoyment in killing animals. There is an enjoyment in trying to outsmart game that definitely does not have the brain power we do, yet seems to out-wit us most of the time. We are so disadvantged when it comes to hunting it is funny. Of course there are technologies and techniques that swing the advantage far into our favor. That is why those are outlawed. Those laws are supported by hunters.

I have to admit, there are a few idiots that are loud and get themselves and their stupid behavoir noticed over us ethical hunters. Kind of like a few televangilists making all preachers look bad. I know the fish and game hotline number by heart and will call it as soon as I see stupid, illegal behavior in the woods.

By the way, I took the dog and my daughter hunting this morning. Had an absolutely wonderful time. Didn't see one game animal.

Hunting is "still allowed" because it is the most efficient and cost-effective way to successfully manage and conserve wildlife populations.

Additionally, hunting is a completely natural thing. Some living organisms die so that others can live. Some creatures are predators and some are prey.

Every time you see a leather jacket, leather shoes, turkey dinner, pepperoni pizza, or a chicken McNugget, somebody killed something.... and it was done under conditions far more troubling than when a hunter pursues a wild game animal in its natural habitat.

Hunting wild animals is a challenging and wholesome activity. A successful hunt is a very rewarding experience...which is why successfull hunters like to share their experience with others.

Should we then arrest any bears that try to eat to salmon, or execute a lion for eating a zebra? Hunting is a hell of a lot more humane than buying meat from a store. The meat you buy at Wal-Mart came from animals that were raised on a farm it's entire life and it's only purpose in life was to be brutally killed and eaten. Wild game animals on the other hand are able to enjoy life in the open and may not even be killed at all.

What I don't understand is how non-vegetarians can be anti-hunting. They think that they are doing nothing wrong buying meat from the store. That meat doesn't grow on trees, someone had to kill it. In legal terms hiring a hitman to kill for you is the same as if you did it yourself. I find it more respectful to the animal you eat to have killed it yourself.

Some people hunt because it is a family thing others because they love the outdoors and yet others who want the healthy food venison provides. I hunt for all of these reasons. People brag about their hunts because they want people to know what they went through to get the animal and that they can do the things that people did to keep their families alive many years ago.

Bound's hubby here:

First, with the way you posed this question, I do hope you are a vegetarian!

Tyler is quite right. But a few additional points you might want to take into consideration!

First, do you enjoy eating meat and processed meats (such as your hotdogs) that are enhanced with steriods? Most of the meat that you purchase at your local grocery store is laced with steriods, because ranchers need to meet the meat demand with less grazing land, so they enhance the feed they give their stock!

Second, have you seen how they slaughter the livestock that eventually finds its way to your table? Sliced and left to bleed out or electrocuted ...? Not very humane, is it?

Yet, you condemn those that take game to put on their table while you pay someone else to be cruel to livestock that have been fed drugs to meet your meat needs?

Hunters do not enjoy killing, but putting food on the table requires that any animal that finds its way to the table meet an untimely death. Hunters may enjoy the hunt ... and they talk about the hunt.

Hunting will exist as long as people want to eat meat.

Because it's been going on since the beginning of time, and like just about any other animal, man has the instinct to hunt. Take away the right to hunt, and it will mess up how things work on this planet.

We hunt because we don't enjoy eating "mechanically separated" animals. Every animal we "kill" is 100% natural. No antibiotics, hormones or steroids in them. Also, if there were no hunting, the population of prey animals would overcome habitat's ability to sustain them. In time, the animals would over browse the habitat, consume all of the food and most animals would starve to death. Then there would be roadsides, fields, sidewalks, playgrounds and parks riddled with dead animal carcasses. Predators (bears, coyotes, mountain lions) depend on prey animals to survive, and would soon turn to other sources of food (i.e. small children and pets). The saying "we have to kill them, or else they'll die" is a fairly accurate statement. Have you ever read up on the "food chain"? I didn't climb up to the top of it just to eat vegetables.

If hunting were made illegal animals would overpopulate, eat all the food available, and then die a slow miserable death by starvation. Or you would just hit them with your car every trip you make because they would be everywhere. (I am talking mostly about deer in PA because thats where I have experience)

What I do not condone, and would never participate in is a canned hunt.

I can't brag about the buck I shot last year because I didn't get one, but man the 8 point I shot when I was 13 was a nice one I can send a picture of its head on my wall if you like.(Just being ignorant because your question is ignorant)

BTW PETA KILLS

The killing and eating of animals by humans, is both natural and an essential aspect to both human life and to the health of the environment.

Without predatation (hunting) prey animals will multiply beyond the "holding capacity" of the environment and will begin destroying the environment by over grazing and stripping the land bare. Once these animals have stripped the land bare, they too will starve.

Thus, hunting is an essential aspect of the natural environment, and must be continued if we wish to preserve natural habitats.

Because there are some of us still left that could survive if McDonald's went bankrupt. Grow a pair and kill some wild creature. Then go and cook it and live life!!! We are at the top of the food chain for a reason. God made it that way, Burger king is not the only way to cure your appetite!!
