That is unlikely to get you into criminal trouble. Anybody can start a civil suit these days. Any damaging 'Joke', spray painting, egging, or the like, would be vandalism.

Practical jokes seem like fun unless they are on you.
They don't lead to any thing good & as often as not create ill will.
When it's a game between people doing jokes on one another it leads to topping the other person & the jokes get to be more over the top.
I say find something else to do with your time.

Technically, yes. It's called tampering. Realistically, cops aren't going to waste valuable time and money fingerprinting an obvious practical joke, especially when no damage is done.

It seems like everything is punishable by law now - fun is no longer allowed. Do you know the person that you are going to pull this prank on? If so, then use your own judgment on whether or not they would call the cops on you.

As a one off, probably not if it doesn't cause damage. Although you could be sued for the clean up. If it's part of a string of jokes you could be accused of harassment.

I'm thinking harassment and / or criminal mischief, especially if you repeatedly prank the same individual who isn't going to roll with it.
