If you haven't had one or are a piercer, please don't anwser just for the points.

I'm 14 and wearing braces. I want to get my tongue pierced by I have to wait till i'm 16 cause that is when I get my braces taken off.
I haven't spoken to my parents about this, but I am sure that my mom won't let me.
Why? I have asked her to get second holes in my ears (most of my friends have) and she is like, -No I won't let you it is not "proper" for your age!

So any good answers to how can I convince her to say Yes?

Does it hurt? What does it feel like? I realy want to know cause I am quite of a chiken when it cokes to needles!

Plus can I go to my dentist and get a major numing shot so I won't feel a thing in the process of the piercing?
Or do they give you one there before they proceed?
How long does it take it to heal? When will I be able to change the tonguering?

Thanks!!!

LMAO, omg... You and I have something in common... I was 12 when I had my tongue pierced and @ 13 I had braces.... It doesn't harm your braces or anything like that and you don't have to take it off when they tighten it... if shes buggin about your 2nd holes to be done then shes gonna flip on you for gettin your tongue done! What you can do is get your tongue pierced and get a retainer=its a see thru tongue ring & acrylic& the top of the ball looks like the color of your tongue and its not noticeable) but the thing is you cant put the retainer in when they pierce it...bcuz the retainer is on tight&small. and when you get your tongue done they use a LONG 14G barbell because it swells and gets fat.. and when it goes down you can go buy a reg cute tongue ring..soooo how i did it with my mom i begged the **** out of her and i told her 'mom i know im going to regret this so let me take the chance' lol i know its stupid but she was like 'at least you know'.. research it and show her that you aint no kid.. when she walks by the computer just have a website up with maddd tongue pics... or just be a rebel and get it done, hide it from her and if she finds out be like 'i cant take it off yet until it heals! bcuz it hurts soo much i know you was right mom im sorry and it hurts like hell let me suffer for 2weeks with this or until it heals then i'll take it off' LOL! then BUY YOUR RETAINER $25-35...it doesn't hurt when they pierce it bcuz its like 1-2-3 and its finish... the SWELLING hurts on a scale of 8... it hurts to eat.. even a damn sandwich.. just gotta keep it clean ;).. and no theres no numbing at the piercing place... they give your listerine and after that they pat dry your tongue and then they pierce it QUICK from bottom to top.It feels like 3 pop sounds.. i think the pop sounds will be more scareier lolz.. And if you REALLY scared about the pain... Don't waste the piercers time and if you know a friend that has some coke that numbs your tongue.. LOL all the info i give you is true to the heart hope this help.. and go to this site... and READ everything you can about tongue piercings because it aint all dandy as it seems to be in some cases...... www.bmezine.com

I have had my tongue pierced (twice actually, had to take the first one out for surgery). My piercer put a numbing gel on my tongue so it didn't hurt that bad. it feels like when you bite your tongue really hard. then your tongue will swell to about twice the size for a few days, so there is no "hiding" it. The first few days you suck on ice cubes to reduces the swelling, and for about 6 weeks it is going to be tender. During that time, you need to be really dilgent about using an antiseptic mouthwash everytime you eat or drink something to prevent infection. Then, once you have it, you have to be prepared for every sleezy guy you encounter to make some lewd reference to oral sex. you can change your piercing usually after a month or two, when the swelling has gone down and you can go to a shorter barbell. but also, if you keep it for very long, you will ruin the enamel on your teeth, especially the backs of your lower front teeth where the piercing constantly is hitting them. enamel is what helps keep your teeth stong and less susceptable to cavities. its pretty important. if your tongue gets infected (and its pretty common, because people don't keep them clean during the first few weeks), be prepared for one of the grossest things you've ever seen on your body. my advice, don't do it. especially at a young age, when you don't need the connotations (oral sex) of what that piercing was intended for. If you go ahead with it, wait until you are 18 so you can get it professionally done to head off any risk of a bad pierce (i've see terrible ones that were crooked), or infection.

I have watched two people get their tongue pierced. The girl just made an "aah" noise and the guy just laughed and showed me the blood on his tongue. I think I got sick watching more than it seemed to hurt them. You have to start off with a really long rod in case your tongue swells. I seen the guy have trouble talking at first because the rod would stand straight up in his mouth. He did have a hard time eating for about a week and you have to use a mouthwash. His healed fine and he talked normal after it healed. I couldn't even tell it was in his mouth.

you have to be 18 to get the piercing and i would certainly wait. It can hurt and be a lot harder to care for than an ear piercing. There are also a lot of other reason why people have tounge piercings which is not for aesthetic reasons and at 14 i truely hope they are not relevent.

If you dont want to put up with the pain DO NOT have it done, the pain lasts and a dentist certainly wouldnt numb it.

I think its an awful idea for you to be contemplating wait until you are much older and make a much better judgement, that is one of the reasons why an age limit is in place!!!!!

if your mom isn't going to let you get second holes pierced in your ears then she's not going to let you get your tongue pierced. i went thru the SAME thing when i was 16. it takes about a month to heal and it really doesn't hurt to actually get it pierced. you have to swish with listerine for a minute before they pierce it and they pinch it with some forceps that cut off the circulation to the middle of your tongue. i had mine pierced twice and i never felt a thing. the pain comes the day afterward when there is swelling and stuff. good luck!

your mom won't let you because you're too young! and no reputable professional piercer will pierce you anyway because of your age. and if they do then most likely its a skank shop and you'll end up getting infected or the jewelry will be rejected or worse. there's no rush, wait till you're old enough to get it professionally done and by then you may even change your mind. i have several piercings and i got my tongue done when i was 16 from a guy i worked with at his house. i regret doing it that way now for sure...i hid it from my parents for over two years but that's because i hardly talked to them anyway. alot of people ive known to have it done don't have any problems out of it, but it f*cked up my speach pretty bad. i slurred and lisped even after it healed. it's fine now but i wish i had just waited till i was of age to go to a pro. don't do it either because you're friends have it done, that's the worst reason to and if so then you're def. not ready to have something like that done. there's no rush, so just wait till your older and more mature and then if you still want it done check out the shop first, if it seems dirty or just not right, then go with your gut, it's probably not safe. a clean shop and sterile equipment is what you need to look for.

i do not have my tongue pierce but i have gotten several cartilage piercings and i gotta tell you, i dont care what anyone says. any piercings healing process is going to hurt. especially if you have a low pain tolerance. if you dont want to deal with pain, dont get any more piercings. but if this is something you really want, then i think you can handle it.

they dont give you any numbing before hand, my friend got hers done. she said it didnt hurt and they clamped her tongue to do it..but im doubting her a bit. its like moms and child birth. afterwards, they forget how badly the procedure hurt.

hey and this is only my opionion but i wouldnt get it done especially since your parents spent so much on your teeth. i had mine done twice for six years now i wish i wouldnt have dont it cause playing with it all the time wore the enamel off my teeth now there sensitive and they hurt. but its your choice. and about the pain sounds like you should reconsider the tongue piercing thing.
