The pilgrimage brings together Muslims from around the world to worship God together in a spirit of universal humanity. The hajj symbolizes the worldwide nature of the ummah and links modern Muslims with the historic sites of Islam. Before arriving in the holy city, Muslims bathe, remove their ordinary clothes, and don a simple form of dress: two seamless white sheets for men and white dresses and head coverings for women. White clothes symbolize purity and unity, and the simple clothing shows that all Muslims are equal before God.
Islam also affirms that all human beings are created by God and they are equal in the sight of God. God is One so the followers of God must be one people. Hajj affirms this oneness. Muslims from all over the world come there and spend few days together. Hajj is a symbol of Islamic universalism.
muslims whether on hajj or not must take the spirit of Hajj seriously and apply it to their every day life. We must strive to bring Muslims together. We must work for the Muslim unity at every level. There should not be any nationalism, regionalism, and ethno-centrism, color prejudice, language prejudice and racial prejudice among Muslims. Muslim Ummah must be united, no divisions, no wars, no battles and no borders either. We must all work for the one Unified Ummah under the banner of Tawhid.

Hajj is one of the five pillars of the Muslim faith. It is a duty for all Muslims.
Traditionally, pilgrims travel to Mecca in groups with their friends or family, or people from their local mosque as an expression of unity. Some airlines have special package holidays for Muslims going to Makkah. A woman is encouraged to go to Mecca in the company of a male relative (father, husband, or brother) but the Saudi government permits an unaccompanied woman to go provided that she travels in a group with other women. If a women wants to go on hajj the Saudi government requires that a male relative writes a letter giving her permission.

Because Hajj is a time when all the Umrah are together in Makkah worshipping ALLAH. It doesn't matter what sect you are, whether your rich or poor because it's all about seeking repentance for all your sins from the previous year and getting closer to God.
