Muslims will be SHOCKED to know that 'jihad' in Arabic means 'to struggle' and 'jihaad fee sabeelil laah' means to struggle in the way of God NOT to fight the non-believers and especially not to kill non-believers in terrorist acts. Nonbelievers or even believers can be fought ONLY in support of the downtrodden and ONLY if they are prevented from practising their religion. All other fights or struggles may be 'jihaad' for cdountry, self preservation, etc but not 'jihaad fee sabil laah'.

The essential meaning of Jihad is the spiritual, psychological, and physical effort we exert to be close to God and thus achieve a just and harmonious society. Jihad literally means "striving" or "struggle" and is shorthand for Jihad fi Sabeel Allah (struggle for God's cause). In a sense, every Muslim is a Mujahid, one who strives for God and justice.

Another form of Jihad is the striving to translate the Word of God into action. If one has experienced God and received guidance from the Qur'an, one struggles to apply that guidance in daily life. So the larger, more prevalent meaning of Jihad is the spiritual struggle of the soul. In this case, Jihad is always present for the believer whether there is an external enemy or not. We should never reduce Jihad to violence.

A third level of Jihad is popularly known as "holy war." The classic passage is found in the Qur'an:
Fight in the way of Allah those who fight against you, but transgress not the limits. Truly Allah likes not the transgressors (Qur'an 2:190).

So no muslims wont be "shocked" coz we do believe terrorism is forbidden in islam its only the fanatics who need 2 pay heed to dis.

i am aMuslim, and yes, i do agree that u are absolutely right about the meaning of Jihad...

although...i'm sorry, but i don't understand why we should be so SHOCKED about this.....

or wait a minute - does this have anything about us being "terrorists"?? if so, then i have some news for u:

like i said b4, u were right: Jihad does mean to "stuggle" in the way of God, and only the LESSER Jihad means that u may fight in SELF-DEFENCE if Islam is under threat, or muslims are being oppressed.....which is kinda wot's happening today......

and, in my opinion, those who wage WAR for no reason at all in the name of RELIGION have no right to call it Jihad

hope that helps

~peace~

Some people just like to fight - so they interpret the rules in a way which allows them to do so.

These people are called terrorists, fanatics and murderers
