If you could count cards you wouldn't be asking the question.
My best advise for blackjack is don't bust. Make the dealer beat you.

Trentrock obviously knows what he's talking about and gave you good advice. I want to warn you, however, about a new and scary trend at many "single deck" games. Some casinos are currently bragging that they have single deck tables, but are paying less then 1& 1/2 to 1 on blackjacks...7 for 5 seems to be the new standard at many tables when the old odds would be[and should be]7&1/2 for 5.This is giving up too much and should not be tolerated.I think [especially if you're not a "counter"],that you would be better off at a multideck game that pays 1&1/2 half to 1 on blackjacks.Be carefull...the house is always trying to increase their odds in any way they can without making too many waves.I personally make a point of stopping by a table that doesn't pay full odds on blackjack and asking the dealer what they pay.I like to call it to the attention of the poor dummys that are sitting there getting screwed out of their hard earned cash.Good luck

Learn the Basic Strategy so you can play it without thinking. Then learn how to count cards. Start by learning how to count just the fives. It will give you a small but definite advantage over the house, enough to prove to yourself that you can win at Blackjack. Then, find a single-deck game, like those in Nevada, no more than three other players at the table. Play one hand and don't bother with any of those distractive goofy side bets.
Dimbulb is correct; I've seen blacjkack that pays 6 to 5 and 7 to 5. Avoid these games like the plague. You're giving up a solid 1% to the house, which will break you every time even if you count the cards perfectly. There are plenty of single-deck games with fair odds. I play in Wendover, Nevada myself (90 mins west of Salt Lake City).
