There are far less harmful meds out there you can give your dog to calm them down. Benedryl is not recommended.Check with a vet or go to the vet supply. There are drops that contain all natural herbs,no kidney or liver damage.
But the best thing to do is work with your dog everyday to overcome her fears.Don't rely on drugs for a quick fix.
Good luck to you and your dog.

First, Benedryl will not hurt a dog. However, it normally does not make them drowsy like it does humans, so I doubt it would serve your purposes. Also, it is not advisable to give a dog anything before grooming. Most groomers will not accept sedated pets, and it's dangerous even if they do. Sedated dogs are at a higher risk for anxiety and aggression than non-sedated pets. I strongly suggest you consider something else and avoid this idea.

One thing you can consider is mobile groomers- there are groomers in many areas that bring vans to your home and groom the dogs right there in your driveway. It's very convienent and less stressful for a dog who doesn't like car rides.

Giving a dog Benedryl is only for when they are encountering an allergic reaction to something, i.e, bee stings, etc., and you can give them 1 25milligrams per 25lbs of dog.

For car sickness, which our dogs get also, give them Dramamine in the same dosage. that is for motion sickness. And as some have stated, yes, human drugs can affect animals differently, and filter through the liver as everything dose in both humans and animals. But, that said, vets use and recommend these two drugs for dogs and cats for motion sickness and allergic reactions. Safety is in the dosage per pound of animal. Good luck!

Benadryl will not hurt your pet. 1 ml dose about 30 min before getting in the car. Long term use is not recommended. I would get your dog use to the car. Just sit in it in the driveway 15 min a day until the dog realizes its okay.

There are special meds you can get from your vet to calm your dog's nerves.

It is safe to give benedryl (only the pill form) when your dog have some allergies. I gave my 8lbs yorkiepoo benedryl several times because he gets hives and other allergies during spring. Of course, I didn't give him the pills before consulting my vet. He said it's perfectly fine. I give him one pill a day whenever he has his allergic reaction.

I wouldn't give your dog benedryl just the purpose of calming the nerves.

benadryl is safe for pups, find the liquid version and try to use the dosage direction and math to find an approximate amount. milliliters versus approx weight of a child, and lean to the lower dosage first to see how effective it is

Don't! Medicine for humans are not metabolized the same way.

Do the grooming yourself, if you know she freaks out so much.
