I am a 20 something female and often refrain from drinking alcohol because I like to take things in moderation and alcohol is way to high in calories. Plus I like to work out most days and drinking doesn't really mesh well with alcohol.
Anyway, I went out with the girls last night and for the first time in quite a while (before Christmas), I had three drinks and was feeling tipsy but not drunk. I have a small hangover but not too bad. What is really awful is this horrible feeling of anxiety that I have. It's a lurking feeling that something is wrong and I can't quite explain it.
I noticed that I usually feel this way the day after I drink regardless of whether I got drunk or not. I also don't feel this way when I am drinking, just afterwards. I am a really laid back person and never feel this way otherwise.
Does anyone else experience anxiety after they have consumed alcohol?

When I was in my teens, and later into my twentys, I too would feel this crippling sense of anxiety after a night of using alcohol. I could never understand how this wasn't happening to my friends, but for me, I could barely cope.
Also, it would increase in direct relation to the amount I had drinken, getting so bad at one point that the only way to get rid of it was to immediatly drink again. A visious circle then began, what a nightmere that was.
Today, many years later, and after suffering through one failing cure or another, for me it was found that I suffer from a low seratonin level in my brain, and the episodes with alcohol affect this situation in a huge way. The chemicals in my brain are not like the majority of my friends, so they could no easier understand how I was feeling as I could understand there freedom from it. It was only as the years went on, even after I stopped drinking alcohol, that the anxiety began to happen all the time. I guess the hormone levels just kept getting lower and lower. Eventually I felt this terrible anxiety all the time. Fortunatly for me, I found a mental health doctor that understood what was happening, and diagnosed me with something called 'Social Anxiety Disorder'. He put me on a drug called Paroxetine, or commonly known as Paxil, and I have been able to live again. It gave me back a chance to live my life again, but what a nightmere I went through.
Just know that you can break this anxiety, but sometimes you need alittle help.

I know what you mean about the anxiety. My deal is I get that after I get really really really drunk. I don't know why, perhaps we feel guilty. But one thing is for sure, the anxiety is not from the booze. It's your mental reaction to boozing. Just relax, put in a movie or hit the sauna (sweat out all that crap) or go for a run...it will soon pass.

The anxiety you are feeling is alcohol withdrawal. Go to the store and get a Gatorade, you are also dehydrated. Drink plenty of water. Believe me I know, I used to drink, but I stopped because I would get sick from drinking too much. I feel so much better now. The best thing to do is, DON'T DRINK!!!

consuming alcohol releases endorphins in the brain which make you feel good and reduce anxiety. You feel anxiety now because once the extra endorphins are gone symptoms of these include: depression, anxiety, lower mood and worry.

That is definitely a hang over. lol. I hate that. Always make sure that when you go out drink liquor before beer, and try not to mix it up. Beer before liquor, never been sicker; Liquor before beer, your in the clear. I would drink whatever you did last night, just a little and take ibuprofen. It will go away. lol. good luck I hope this helped. :)
