Is it because you all want to learn more about God but are afraid to accept or are you all trying make Christians have a bad opinion of Atheism. I mean, there are other sites that you can all attend, and talk about evolution and Atheism. Making fun of others will only make Atheism a more laughable subject to others. If you truly hate God than why bother arguing with Christians? It does not help you in your so called free thinking, free from God.

1) This section is called "Religion and Spirituality" NOT "Religious and Spiritual". ANYONE of ANY beliefs can discuss the SUBJECTS of Religion and Spirituality.

2) Neither Religion nor Spirituality is limited to believers in 'creation'. There are hundreds of different beliefs about the origin of the universe.

3) FYI, atheists are some of the most spiritual people on the planet.

Here's the thing, pal. Spirituality does not necessarily translate directly into a belief in God. Buddhists, for example do not necessarily believe in God, and yet are very spiritual.

You express the rather ill-considered idea that atheists "hate God." Atheists do not believe that God exists. Can you hate a non-existent being? Do you hate Santa Claus?

You might do well to stop being so fervid, and relax. You might even learn something. I am certain that it is not your intention to make atheists have a bad opinion of Christianity, but your closed-minded attitude may have just that effect.

The reason I come to this section is because the society&culture section always has the most interesting questions and I enjoy reading them and answering them if I can. By the way, atheists don't hate God, they just lack belief in the existence of deities. Plus, you can be an atheist and still be spiritual, like Buddhists for example.

IMHO, Christians are religious but not spiritual. And it is not only atheists who ask provocative questions, is it? Every day I read questions about Jews or Muslims that are so hateful and venomous from Christians or questions that aren't really questions that say YOU WILL BURN IN HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY! Oh, sure, I'm going to join a religion like that! And how about Christians who visit sites like the LBGT section or the science sections and crap all over everyone there?

You know what amazes me about Atheism, apart from them having their own holiday on April 1? Sorry, just had to throw that in there. For only a fool says that there is no God. Psalm 14:1

Why are they so enlightened that they think they need to proselytize others to their way of thinking? Given their vehement denial of God (or any deity apart from themselves), I'm inclined to believe that it's nothing more than rebellion. In order to not believe in something, you have to believe in the possibility of it.

I would think that atheists would just remain silent and do their own thing rather than drag everyone else down with them. My experience has been that they are a miserable lot. Gee, all that joy in one place makes me want to go to the Last National Church of Self-Righteousness and party it up.

Believe it or not, there are other spirituals paths besides christian and atheist.
You might want to do a little research.
And there a plenty of christians on here every day making fun of those that believe differently. How do you explain why they are on here?

Edit:
And for *newjdguy* The reason I choose not to "just remain silent and do their own thing rather than drag everyone else down with them," is that you Christians are attempting to force me to live your way by legislating YOUR beliefs into my laws and my kid's school. I will fight that effort until the day I die.

While I do not believe in God, I am interested in why people do believe. I think that how people answer these types of existential questions shows a great deal about human nature. I'm curious and I think my ideas on the subject are worth hearing. Plus, I find this site to be humorous and entertaining, as well as thought-provoking.

I am here to help you, just like people helped me.

I too was a brainwashed Christian (yes, that's redundant) and a group of atheists confronted me about my faith, how I could justify having faith.

Once I tried to defend it, I realized it was indefensable. It was not a fun thing for me to lose my faith, (like a drug addict kicking his drug addiction) but once I had done it, I was a MUCH BETTER PERSON for it, and happier too.

I might ask you, "why are you asking questions of atheists? is it because you know your god is fake - a fairytale?" but that would not be a fair question. You are probably totally brainwashed to believe in this god.

You see, children take what their parents say as FACT before the age of about 5 yrs old. They simply don't have time to verify warnings such as "don't go too near the cliff" or "stay away from the lions". This is a survival mechanism built in through EVOLUTION. Religion takes advantage of that mechanism, and brianwashes kids to believe a god is real. Once you realize your god is fake just like Peter Pan or Zeus, you can hope to snap out of it. But you really need to hear it a few times before it can sink in.

Good luck with losing your faith.

Carlos, I believe in God and so choose to voice my opinions on religion and spirituality.
I did a little research on the subject of spirituality and found it means other things besides a belief in our creator. Spirituality can apply to all people including non-believers.
With that thought, they have the right to view their opinions, even when they don't relate to a religious belief which is farthest from their minds.

Maybe you didn't notice the title of the category: Religion & Spirituality. It does not say anything about this being a Christian Mutual Admiration Society. And who said that atheists hate God? Those are YOUR words!
