For example, if someone is in an enclosed room which is filling with smoke (but not fire) how long would it be before they died or would be seriously at risk of severe respiratory damage or other such health risks?

Depends what's in the smoke. If it contains a lot of toxic fumes such as from furniture it would take a matter of a couple of minutes to kill you. If it fills the lungs to the point of seriously restricting oxygen intake, a few minutes. Far more people die of smoke inhalation than burning to death.

This was just a normal reaction from your tree. The leaves and little twigs might not have survived the heat from the fire but it will not hurt your tree that much. Actually it wasn't the smoke that killed the leaves and such, it's the heat from the fire you built too close. Learn from it and don't ever do it again. The branches will drop the dead leaves and if the branches survived the heat they will grow new leaves this year yet. You don't have to wait until spring time.

Smoke from fire can kill or seriously harm you, i feel quite disturbed that you want to know how long it will take for this to happen.
Get smoke alarms fitted in all rooms apart from the kitchen, pop some batteries in and test them each week.

it depends on how big the room is . if the room is small the smoke will melt your skin right off and kill you within minutes. if it is a big room and your locked in it all depends on how much you can see to jump out a window. fire is the worst way to die unless an animal kills you thats the worst

less than minutes, especially if they had asma or trouble with breathing, the smoke would get into your lungs. in a lot of cases it isnt a fire that kills someone it is the fire smoke
