You didn't mention whether you have nausea or if it's just a bad cold, but this is something I can keep down when everything else tastes and smells awful to me, and it would be good and warming for a cold as well. Something about the delicate flavor of leeks just seems, I don't know, refreshing and purifying.

Take about 3 medium-sized leeks and trim off the root ends and most of the green tops. Slice them about 1/2 inch thick--the exact thickness doesn't matter--and put them in a big colander. Then rinse them REALLY well under cold water, because leeks can be very sandy on the inside. Dump them into a saucepan and cover them with chicken broth. If you don't have any broth, water will do. Add a little salt to taste. Bring it to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer it for about 30 minutes.

Pour the liquid through a colander set over another saucepan or a bowl. The cooked leek is perfectly edible, but I usually toss it out because it doesn't sound good when I'm sick. Sip the broth very hot. It will keep fine in the fridge for a few days and can be reheated as needed. When you start feeling a little better, a piece of buttered bread tastes good dipped into the hot broth.

Hope you feel better soon.

I don't know what you have, but if it's a cold go with a hot and sour chicken soup (clears out sinuses great!), OJ, water, and lots of rest.

My mom also made me Jello when I was sick, but I think that was more comfort food than having any curative properties.

Really, anything you can keep down.
