Can high school rumors be considered slander and have the law deal with it?

Slander anywhere is punishable. It is a civil offense not a criminal one. You will however have to prove that your reputation has been damaged to the extent that it affects your opportunities or other rights you are otherwise entitled to not just because what someone said makes you mad.

No. High school students brains haven't finished developing yet...they are wired for Stupid. Rumor and slander are the only subjects they have down pat and both are relatively harmless.

Slander is not a criminal act, it is a civil one. You could hire an attorney and sue in civil court, but no one will be arrested for slander.

High school will be over soon.
The fact that people are "makin' sh*t up about ya" won't mean squat in a year or two.
