We fought against some different forces in Vietnam. There were the uniformed forced of the North called NVA Regulars and the communist guerrila forces. The communist guerrila forces were called Vietnamese Communists, shortened to Viet Cong. That was shortened to VC and had the phonetic alphabet applied to it and became Victor Charlie and finally Charlie or in some cases Chuck.
