Yes, toners are very important to use after a bleach has been done. The purpose of a toner, other than to tone down the obvious color left over from the bleach (ie: some will pull alot of gold) is to also shut the hair cuticle layer down so it isn't wide open any more. If the cuticle layer doesn't get shut down, real damage can take place and your hair will have a hard time recovering. You can use any toner really, it's just choosing the right tones themselves that is the tricky part. For example if you are yellow/gold after your bleaching you will definitely want to get a toner with a beige base to it. The toner only needs to be on the hair no more then 10 minutes (your cuticle is wide open - and will suck it in like a vacuum, leave it on too long and your hair will go to the blue/purple color that beige is). I always tell people to stay away from ash (it's a green base) and once it is left too long it'll turn your hair green. If you hair has pulled to a white yellow or white, you will want to add some more warmth as a toner, and you may want to go with a "natural" base. But stay away from all reds period. When you are rinsing your toner out of your hair be sure to have a really good conditioner on hand to condition your hair after this whole process. After a bleach/toner your hair will be dry and parched. You will need to condition it well everytime you wash your hair. Don't wash your hair everyday, the color will fade faster and it will dry it out even more. Just a few tips - been there many times and was a professional hair colorist for many years. Have since retired.

Toners For Hair

Yes, you can put toner in your hair straight after you bleach it. Right after you rinse the bleach out, put the toner on wet hair and keep working it through, but do not leave it too long, cuz it could tone too much, and make your blonde look steel grey...so don't leave the sink! By putting in a toner you coat your hair after the bleach stripped it, so its healthier, as well as tone it to what level of blonde you want. There are different toners you can use, and it depends on what you want. You can have pearl, blonde, gold, whatever you want. Depends on what color line you use, there should be a book with different toners in it.

a toner by nature is designed to give bleached hair some of its color back....or in other words, to give you a more "warm" blond color. So yes, you are supposed to put a toner on after bleaching. I have used the professional series clairol products that you can find at a beauty supply....go to Sally's beauty supply....they have exactly what you need and the staff is friendly and helpful....happy coloring
