Is there anything else she can add to the diet to help them to gain weight? I have heard of feeding them eggs both for the protien and to help their coat, but are there any other foods that will help put weight on them quickly?

Mom should have been fed a high quality puppy chow through out her pregnancy. What is your friend feeding them??
With puppies at 6 weeks of age, they should be offered high quality puppy chow 3-4 times a day. You may have to tell your friend to add warm water so it's easier for them to eat. Also, remember that the puppies may still nurse in addition to the kibble. They should also be de-wormed at this age

A good quality food will lead to a healthy weight and coat.

Tell your friend that unless her dog is breed standard and has been shown, she really should be spayed after this litter is weaned. There are already too many homeless dogs in this world

I start feeding a dry food soaked in milk replacement at 4 weeks of age, so by 6 weeks they are weaned. Definitely feed them a high quality dry puppy food. I also supplement with scrambled eggs, rice, cottage cheese and a protein supplement. Also during pregnancy and before weaning I feed the mother the same high protein mixture.

You don't want them to gain weight quickly - it's damaging to a young puppy's joints. They need to be on a good quality dry puppy food with a tiny bit of vegetable oil added to keep their skin and coats in good condition, but the last thing you want them to do is put on weight quickly. (And if your friend's a "breeder", she should definitely know something simple like how to feed puppies!)

Mix in some soft food. But I don't understand you wanting to put weight on 'quickly.' Let the puppies eat as much or as little as they want, as long as they are not undernourished.
