What you need to do is light a match, blow it out then instantly put the hot end of the match against the tick. That would make it release on the animal therefore you would be able to pull it out easily. Flush it down the toilet. If you try to pull it out without doing the above, you may leave the ticks legs in the skin causing an infection. Bathe the area afterwards with salt water to clean it!

The idea is to make the tick retract it's mouth from the dog's skin. Use a hot matchhead or a lit cigarette. Using tweezers will leave the head and mouth parts behind 99% of the time, and leave the site of the tick open for infection or continued irritation.

This just happened to my dog. Vet says to get a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol and set it on the tick. This will "stun" the tick and slow it from burrowing. Then, take tweezers and pull the tick out by the body. Make sure you get the head out too. If you are not certain that you have got all of it out, it is best to take the dog to the vet.

You can make the tick let go by applying a bit of vaseline around where the tick is attached. This cuts off the air supply and the tick unburrows of its own accord. Try not to pull it off as you dont want to leave the head and legs. Wrap it in tissue and squish it, they're pretty hard to kill and squishing is the most definitive way!

Pull the tick out with a tweezers. But make sure its as near to skin as possible. Otherwise the head will be left in the skin and cause irritation.

Rub out the tick and put a cross. Sorry, couldn't help it!
If it's a dog, the local pet shop will have sprays, pills and so on. (and good advice for free) Good luck.

antibiotics/sprays, I would have thought it would cost you less than £10 from a pet shop, i've heard if you pull on ticks then the head and or mouth parts stay in your pets skin & could cause a pretty nasty infection
