My daughter is showing signs that she might be ready to be potty trained (she's 26 mos). She lets us know when she has a poopy diaper, and she'll watch mommy use the toilet and flushes it when it's done. I've purchased a small potty chair which she happily sits on fully clothed. She will also go through the motions of pretend wiping and placing the TP in the potty chair, and will even try to wash her hands. A couple days ago I tried to take the next step and coaxed her to sit on the potty chair with her pants pulled down, but she's afraid to sit on it bare-bottom. We've also gone through the trick of potty-training her teddy bear, but she still won't sit on the toilet, unless her pants are pulled up. Any suggestions? Should I keep trying daily to get her to do this, or should I back off for a month or two?

Do you have friends with kids around her age? Maybe you can make potty training get togethers and show her that the other kids do it. Maybe it will be fun for her to try too because her little kid buddies know how. Many kids hate potty training. Don't scare her but dont back off either. Keep at it. make it fun. Make a sticker chart and tell her she can pick a sticker to put on just for sitting on the potty even if she doesnt actually pee or poo.
Reward her with lots of hugs and kisses for when she sits on it.. some parents will get upset if their kids dont go.. but even if they attempt to sit on it... you have to let them know they did a good job!! And make a potty time song... its fun for them.

Do not push if your daughter is afraid of the potty chair. She is only 2 years old and has plenty of time to learn to use it. They have found that it is better not to push a child into potty training. There is no set time or rule. Keep talking and showing her how you take down your pants to go to the bathroom. Try pull-ups so she can pull down her own diapers like Mommy does her pants. She will get the point eventually when she is ready.
You can also try a seat that fits on the regular toilet with a little stool that helps her get up onto it with your help. Some children just don't like potty chairs, they want to use the same seat that Mommy and Daddy does.

kids this age are sometimes afraid that they will go down with whatever's in the toilet. it won't hurt to back off a little, but keep talking to her about using the big potty or that she'll be a big girl when she uses the potty. there are probably books at the library that will help you teach and her learn about using the toilet. my mom always said "they don't go to kindergarten in diapers!"

maybe you could get the kind that sits on top of the toilet mommy uses, she'd see you sitting on it and know it was okay and wouldnt hurt her. also, there are potty videos...one i like to use is 'once upon a potty'. if this doesnt help, everytime you go to change her diaper,i suggest asking her if she'd like to sit on the potty first or not. if she declines, say "okay, maybe next time!"...eventually she'll strike an interest =)

How about sitting on the potty with underpants on, first?

How about taking it apart and showing her what the inside looks like and have it help you put it back together again...

What about taking a doll...taking the doll's pants off and sitting on the potty...a teddy bear?

I hope that helps...

back off for about a month, but continue to have her sit on it with her clothes on and potty train her teddy.

I would back off a bit, leave it around and let her play with it. When your in the house and if you really want to keep trying let her run around in the house with no nappy on and keep trying to sit her on it. But they do say if you push it too much then it can put them off the idea and will take longer.

I would leave it.....she'll just do it one day and then you'll be sorted.
