Yes it can be caused by a migraine. I woke up one night in bed and my whole left side was paralysed. I managed to waken my husband who called the doctor (that was when doctors actually made house calls, before the NHS 24 helpline). He arrived quickly and examined me. Before he left he had me up on my (wobbly) feet and slowly I was beginning to feel and move my limbs again. It was very frightening and I know how upset you must be for your sister. Luckily I made a full recovery within a few days apart from having to stop and think sometimes for the word I want to use, which still affects me from time to time. Your sister seems to have had her symptoms longer than mine but take heart it does go away, just sometimes more slowly than you hoped. The best advice for helping her get better is to let her know that she will. It is a very frightening thing to happen especially when your communication skills have been affected and you can't tell anyone exactly what you mean.

A couple of years back I thought I was having a stroke. The right side of my face, my right arm and hand were numb. I went to the emergency room and yep, it was a migraine. Since then, however, I have found out I have a heart problem, though it probably has no connection. Perhaps your sister should have a stress test done if she was sent home with high BP. I'm 46 too. It is never too early to check and with added weight, it makes things worse, (though I don't have a weight problem)....I found out it is probably a heart condition I have had due to stress and being passed down through the family. My prayers are with her...

My sister has migranes which cause her to lose all her speech and paralyses her right arm. We have been told this is hemiplegic migrane. Treatment for this can include anti-epileptics according to our neurologist. At the moment she is useing ibuprofen (400mg 4 times a day for the duration of the symptoms) and while this doesn't help the headache she gets, it does dramatically improve her speech and her use of her right arm.
If it is migrane based, then you want to try and find a neurologist who specilises in migrane. They will be much more aware of what the causes and treatments for the type of migrane your sister has. Also try a migrane friendly diet - things like no chocolate, and also make sure you have a good sleep pattern.

Yes this can happen i suffered terribly before my 3 yr old was born it would start with the blurred vision, then i would get pins and needles in my hands, then legs, also tongue, i felt sick like id been travelling all day it could last for at least half an hour, and then left me with slurred speech,,, i knew what i wanted to say but the words came out jumled, it was a horrible feeling and left me with a banging headach for days after, i suffered for many years with this condition, ,i had them throughout my pregnancy, but amazingly after the birth ive only experienced flashes in the eyes, and that happens when i get angry or stressed, please tell your sister to try to not worry bout it, is she stressed? could be a food that set it off too, try and help her to loose some weight, but this is normal , some peeps suffer the blurred vision nothing else for other people its worse, good luck

Your best bet would have been to ask the doctors, not strangers on a website. I wish your sister a speedy recovery.
