Your premise is an oversimplification. Humans and modern simeons evolved from a common ancestor which, to your point, resembled a monkey.

No its a good question. These are offshoots of the same hereditary tree. We continued to evolve along our branch and our descendants died out but the offshoots, the apes, were left.
