i had an arab friend named Amr and whenever i called him and asked his dad for him, his dad would summon him by yelling "Yah Om! Yah Om!" what does this mean?

n arabic when you are calling for someone you use the word ya ... when i want to call u i say ya moesha...Om maybe a nickname or something instead of saying the whole name ....why didnt you ask ur friend? i'm sure he would love to explain this to u at least you learn something new from ur friend :D

Hahaha, no he wasnt saying "ya OM' he was saying "Ya Amr" but the name Amr in arabic has a stressed sound that makes it sound like "Omr".

'Ya' means 'Oh.' He was saying"Oh, Amr" or perhaps, he used a pet name for his son.
