No one wants to be a telemarketer, I think. It's unskilled labor and it doesn't pay much. Basically the people who do it are people who have no marketable skills and just need a job. It's not very different from working in fast food.

I really do think there must be some reward for doing the job, and it isn't money or prizes.
I understand some people take the job because they are not qualified for others.
But...I do not answer the phone if I think it is a telemarketer. One group was calling me 8-10 times a day, and more. Still did not answer, this went on for years. finally, one day I messed up, and answered. the caller yelled, Hey, I got her! Lot's of congratualations heard on the other end. And then I started to yell, loudly, something I never do. My voice was not acknowledged, and some talking in the background was done, then I hung up. Next time I answered all nice and sweet, then tore into the guy. I don't get many telemarketer calls these days, since I got aggressive, and since I either take the phone off the hook, or let the answering service pick up on all phone calls.
Click on my avatar, and then the questions I answered. There was one from yesterday about how to deal with telemarketers. It is a good laugh, and it could be usable! It's called telemarketer fun, submitted by GF of a marine.
Hey, does anyone know the location of any of these call Centers? I know some are in the USA. There used to be one in my town, but it is gone, now. Love to pay one a visit, and disturb their time.

My very first job was as a telemarketer. I got a few hang ups but few people were rude. Of course this was over 30 years ago and a lot has changed since then. I sold photo packages. I was paid $25 a week plus commission.

Our spiel was to ask people a question everybody knew the answer to, and make them think they had won something. (Even if they got it wrong, they still won) No one would fall for that today.
ME: "Now listen carefully. Who was the first president of the United States?"
Customer: "Umm was it Abraham Lincoln?"
ME: "You're absolutely right! You've won a free 8x10 photo with your purchase one of the following packages..."

,,,,,,,,,theres still a lot of bucks to be made in tmktng,if you have the voice,,,,,,,,not a blessed thing to know except rudimentary english,,,,,,,screw merchandizing, psychology, persuasion, community college classes in marketing, customer service, dale carnegie,,,,,,,,control is what a parent does to a 2-7-9- year old kid.evident when the kid (usually) stops dead in his tracks a la fredflintstone;daddys voice overrides the kids hormones telling him one thing.daddy telling him another, dad comes out the winner, same principle in tmktng.trouble is ,only a few salesmen have the requisite tones of voice that persuade prospects that their proposal is worthwhile.these guys are the top sellers-earners,and the constant openings posted on-line or in newspapers are looking fo r the other end----the 80 percent who produce only 20 percent of the income for tmktng companies, the functional & real purpose of the newhires is provide a few cold sales for the big guys and then quit, die off(like harvester bees in a hive). managers & top sellers sometimes do dope, train new hires with needling ridicule.so long as the business as a whole makes revenue after paying the top folks,,,,,,well ,telemarketing companies are still a part of life.nowdays they call you from india & the phillipines

I think that telemarketing is a prison job program so inmates can earn a few cents a hour to buy cigs and also to make there time in prison more miserable
