If your worried about the pain your not ready for a tattoo.
Obviously it is painfull and everyone will tell you different things depending on their pain threshold and where you get it done but the want for a tattoo totally outweighs the thought of the pain.

It sometimes depends on the body part being tattooed and how much or how little flesh there is; ankles would be prone to soreness afterward, because most people have bony ankles.
Lower back shold be fine;you will feel a pressure while the tattoo is being done, and maybe some slight stinging. I had one done on my shoulder blade two years ago, and I can honestly say it did not hurt at all. You will be delighted you got it done!

Well to start with it kind of feels like someone is running a needle over sunburn, just whilst they are doing the outline, but when they fill it in, its not that bad and you get used to it, I guess it can be quite therapeutic really. Mine hurt more the further away from my spine it was, but although it sounds painful, its really not that bad honest. Maybe take some music with you or the tattoo artist put a film on when I had my first one, just something else to focus on.

I have one there and it wasn't really painful just uncomfortable. The best way to explain how it feels is "little pinches". It will be a little more uncomfortable around boney areas and towards the end since you skin is getting irritated, red and swollen. This experience also depends on how well you tolerate pain. I can tolerate certain things and if you're willing to get a tattoo I think you'll do just fine. I think the whole idea of having needle constantly poking you is more scary than the actual process is. Good Luck!

I've got one there and it hurt like hell !! it's because it's so near the spine. I've got 9 tattoos on various parts of my body & i'd have to say the lower back one hurt the most.Got them on my boob, forearm, shoulder, upper arms, ankles etc...ignore any answer from a man because their fat distribution & muscle mass is different and they don't feel pain in the same places as a woman. (My tattoo artist told me men are wusses when it comes to the pain-and he's a guy!).

Tattoos hurt, but it depends where you get them on how intense the pain is. The lower back is not as bad as other spots, but if your getting color, remember they use more needles on the gun. Just think of somebody scratching your bad sunburn! Pain is all part of the tattoo experience, and its well worth it in the end......your endorphines will kick in and a few minutes into the tattoo, it will be more annoying then painful!

Mine felt as if the tattooist was carving my skin with a knife. The parts that were on softer tissue hurt more than those on skin onto bone; shading not so much after the initial long strenuous pain. And he was a highly regarded professional. You'd bettter prepare.

On a scale to 1-10 i would have to say a 7. but to not feel the pain as much I make a fist with my hand, or hold on to something really tight. Oh and try not to look at it until its done.

From my experience of getting a LARGE one on my lower back - it doesn't hurt much at all! When the outlining get to the edges of the design, towards my sides, it felt like a pinch that someone would not let go of. Other then that, when he did my design, outling and fill in, it felt like he was taking a large sharpey marker and drawing firmly on my back. From this experience I was extremely surprised at how little it hurt. I would warn you to research your artist first and get some referrals from people who have had them from the person you are interested in. A careless artist will not take the time and it could very well be painful.

Hi there. it does hurt but it is worth it. I got a tattoo down the right hand side of my back and when the tattooist went near my spine it was easier than when he moved away from it. It depends on your pain threshold. good luck with it, bring music with you to take your mind of what is going on. worked for me.
