While it is your doctor who can answer your questions, sometimes, they do prescribe 2 different antidepressants. I can give you a lot of information from the net but so can you get yourself.

You are primarily responsible for your own health and your doctor is your adviser and teacher (Doctor means teacher!). Your doctor should tell you why you are being prescribed more than one drug for a given condition (this may also eliminate any mistake). Every doctor treating you must be aware of all medications you are taking plus any food supplements or over-the-counter drugs. Your pharmacist should also have this information which could help identify combinations that enhance or weaken desired effects of a prescription. Medications should be take exactly as prescribed so that your doctor can evaluate adverse reactions and needed dose. There are usually specific instruction on how to recover from a missed dose. Read the detailed literature that comes with most prescriptions to educate yourself. You always have the right to a second opinion if you ever have any doubts about your medical care.

Monotherapy is usual, and switches from one to another are typical (perhaps 3 in 4), but multiple-drug therapy isn't by any means rare. On the other hand, if you're prescribed two antidepressants at once, they aren't likely both to be SSRI's

They're is probably a reason. I'm on Zoloft but I'm also on medicines to control seizures. These medicine are also used to treat depression, but I still needed the Zoloft. It depends on the person, but check with you're dr. anyways.

Both drugs are in the same category & work basically the same on the seratonin in your brain. A Dr may be weaning you off of one slowly while starting you on the other.
