I woke up this morning and my index finger was sore. I think I may have an infection but I'm not sure. I'm a nail biter and I've had a fingernail infection before which the doctor had to drain, but this doesn't seem like that.

There is no redness around my nail it just hurts. I'm soaking it in hot water so I'm hoping that will help.

Anybody know what this is? Or if there is anything else I can do?

Thanks!

It could be the early stage of an infection that your body may be able to fight. Soak it in warm water if it makes it feel better. Take something over the counter for the pain, if you need it. And wait. Hopefully your doctor will not have to lance it. I have had this happen and then, luckily, it just went away after a day or so.

ok im no dr so i cnt tell u if u hav an infection or not. but for the nailbitting problem, i do have an answer. ok there's this clear coat called "hard as nails" im not sure who is by to b honest. but it makes it hard to bite ur nails. well it jst makes them, in general, stronger, healthier, and grow faster. it helped me get over the biting and idk i think itll help u too. the stuff isnt expensive at all and if u dnt like color on ur nails its clear. if u do they come in tints in all sorts of shades. u mite want to see a doctor.. only they would kno if u have an infection. but to prevent future infections stop bitting ur nails. try the stuff tho seriously it works like a charm!

you can put a bread poultice on it, how you do that is take water as hot as you can stand it and about 1 tsp of salt mixed in in put in a piece of bread as big as the area then put on finger and wrap it, leave it on until it dries probably 24 hours, that will draw out any infection. Good luck

Have you jammed it lately? If so, that might be it. If not, it might be an infection. Try talking to your parents or a doc. They'll be able to help you! Good luck and Get well Soon! =)

Well, if it doesn't improve, you may need medical attention. And stop biting the nails.
