For herbs try: Raspberry leaf tea, black or blue cohosh, peppermint, chamomile (do not use if you have allergies to ragweed).
Try also burning some lavender.. it's has a calming effect.
For stones, try wearing hematite (bracelets work wonders) or carry a moonstone.
Chocolate is also a good mood enhancer.. probably why so many of us crave it during our menses.
also, realize that this is hormonal and that we all go through it to one degree or another. It helps tremendously to know you aren't alone in this :)
Many blessings to you on your path..

I;d recommend meditation on top of everything else. Daily meditation can help calm your moods overall, and help dealing with hormonal shifts be a lot easier. Teach yourself to consciously choose your words and actions so that you're not instantly reacting to whatever happens.
Also, this time of month can be a wonderful time for magic; the energy going through you at this time can be channelled and made useful, rather than building up inside and creating internal pressure. I wrote an article on it a while back that can be found at http://www.sagewoman.com/images/pdfs/sw67featurelupa.pdf
Hope that helps!

Wear moonstones, they help with the changing cycles of women. Also, as far as herbal goes, try a mix of chamomile, lavendar, rosemary, spearmint and peppermint, stevia leaf and licorice. Use any or a combination of the above mentioned herbs and make a tea. Meditation is great, of course, but I know what you mean. Hope this works for you.

I don't think being Pagan has anything to do with it. My wife is Buddhist and I am Taoist. Every month I am on the verge of moving into a hotel for 2 days to get away from her. I am awed by the contrast of emotions that hormones can have.

Okie dokie... I'm seeing a lot of recommendations in here for the use of herbs without knowing your medical history... so MY reply to you, as a Buddhist and a shaman: Research the herbs on your own according to your medical history or talk to someone you trust who knows you. Many of the herbs and supplements, which I firmly believe in, DO interact with other types of medicines (both prescribed and herbal) so you HAVE to be careful with what you use and do it under the supervision of a doc or shaman who is CLOSE to you to monitor your health.
Having said that... many of the ones mentioned, like Black Cohosh, work for SOME people... they affect your hormones and can be dangerous if used improperly, stevia and chamomile are just "calming" types of herbs. So please, do the research, find a alternative-therapy-friendly primary care provider (preferably a licensed doctor) and be careful... another thing some S/Sx (signs and symptoms) you're experiencing can be so severe that sadly, only prescribed meds will help.
My approach with people is to educate them that one must look at their lives wholistically. Medications and herbs can be used but generally they only "band-aid" the symptoms... the underlying causes should also be cared for... in many cases, hormones in milk, meat and other things are being evaluated and assessed as contributing heavily to many of the female issues women suffer. Educate yourself, don't take MY word for it... you'll find both sides of the argument, and in the interim, I wish you well. Consider a lifestyle/eating change in your life and so on, to discuss with your doc/shamanic healer to help you.

There's a tea called Women's Liberty by Traditional Medicinals. It tastes a little fishy, but it's a help. Try also raspberry leaf.
