It can vary...brightly colored knitted squares sewn together, crocheted with (or without) patterns, etc. Very nice. ;-)

Largely depends on the ethnic group. All have fairly dark complexion, bronze or olive-like. Dark hair is the norm, as are dark eyes.
However, they have some small variants. Tajeks tend to be on the leaner side and Pashtun pretty much have the same build norms as Caucasians.
The only real exception is the Hazara, who have a strong mongoloid heritage and are believed to be the descendants of Genghis Khan's army.
Clothing-wise, they wear a variety of clothes from traditional long shirts and loose pants and other ethnic garb and modern attire, often mixing and matching as it goes. Headdress in the form of something akin to oversized berets or pillbox hats are common, as are turbans. However, the wearing of headdres is largely up to the individual.
Sandals or bare feet are the norm in warmer weather, boots and full shoes being few and far between for a large portion of the population. Hygiene is an issue and beards are extremely common.
And while I am deploying to Afghanistan soon, the least I can ask is that respect is shown to them. The country has been around for over 4000 years and their people are strong and honorable, survivors.

Tall, dark skinned with straight black hair and thin features. there are some blonde afghans too, said to be descendants of Alexander the Great's armies.

A lot like you. Two arms and legs, head and torso. Maybe a different complection or hair structure. You probably have passed many of Aghan descent on the street.
