First, talk to the teacher. Show some responsibility and come up with a plan for improving your grade. Then go to your parents with the plan. Tell them you understand the reason you are grounded, and would like to accept all aspects of the punishment, but ask them if they would make an exception for this one party. Then, make sure you follow through by getting a better grade, showing your parents they can trust you, and behaving responsibly at the party.

You are in the 11th grade and nearly out of school on your own. As you will find in your life there are consequence to every thing you do in life. Sometime they are good and sometimes they are bad. The consequences always come at inconvenient time in our lives. You consequence from getting a bad grade is to be grounded unfortunately. It is a major dance and it is hard to miss something like this at your age. You can discuss the matter with your mother by maybe getting better grades between now and always. Show more respect for your life and your family between now and March 24th. Let time cool off the punishment hurt and disappointment you gave your mother from this grade. Become more attentive to your mother and follow her instructions without agreeing with her so much. Just remember an old saying that is so true, you can attract more bees with honey than with vinegar. Negotiate calmly. Respect her wishes if you don't change her mind then do your time. It was you that made it this way. Good Luck

Yes, for starters sneaking out is very stupid, and you'll probably be grounded till you're 40. Try this, tell mom that you'll try to make up the quiz, or if that doesn't work tell her that you are going to study like crazy. Also it would really help to actually to out to a library and get some books on the subject at hand. Oh one more thing.......
Read the books in front of your mom, that may score extra points for you.

My thumbs up thing isn't working.
As a mother I can tell you that GoofyGuy nailed it. Show that you can take responisbility for not only your mistakes, but initiative in resolving them. That is what your mother really wants. It would break her heart too to keep you from the formal, she is trying to help you handle things in an adult manner.
Be grateful that your parents for helping you grow up into a fine woman.
If you are looking for something additional to say THANK your mother for helping you see how important your grades are and that you are sorry that you did not do your best.

So you didn't study for the test and now you want some advice on how to do an end run around your mother so you can go out and have fun...
Tough toenails, kiddo. Why shouldn't you pay for your mistakes?
If it was REALLY that important to you, you would have studied and passed the test then wouldn't have anything to worry about.

Tell her its a 1 time thing and that you'll come home at the designated time. Promise you'll improve your grade between now and then and you'll study more (HAHAHA).
But tell her that you'll improve on your studies!
