A Christian is someone who follows the teachings of Christ. I would say, of the people I have met calling themselves Christian, it would be maybe 20% to 30% making a decent effort.
In the third world country I am it is significantly lower. More like 5% +or -.

Well one for sure, me. Christians are the majority in many countries around the world today. And I know most people that will read this don't like the truth but at least 1/3 of the world is Christian. It is simple to see that by watching the international news. By the way, we live in a Christian country although a few wish to change that by distorting the facts. Christian calenders are used, every oath of office is Christian based, every court uses a Bible to swear witnesses, Christian holidays are all observed, and guess what, in Milwaukee where I live, after 4 years of calling it a "Holiday Tree", it is again called a Christmas tree, since, of course, there is no such thing as a holiday tree.
All of our money uses the word God. Etc. And most people who claim to be Christians do actually believe. It would be kind of dumb to say one is a Christian today and not believe, wouldn't it?
Noticed some of the answers and I see they are talking about how some Christians do or don't practice their religion but your questioned asked, how many are actual believers?

The bible predicted that in the last days before his return, there woudl be a great falling away in the church.. You are examples, since you admit this.
Jesus is coming back for his remnant, not the whole group. The remnant are the true believers. There are reasons for the falling away, but it is too much to go into here. But in general, many have been victimized by organized religion, and have left.
The remnant have had to leave the church also, because it is true christianity which is actually persecuted. This was also predicted in the bible. We are more like the early underground church. There is still some value and good people in the church, but it is a decreasing number.
So to answer your question, I am guessing about 15% will make it in the rapture, and the rest will be left behind, to deal with their faith issues in the tribulation. Maybe "fallen angels" like you will discover God all over again.....but in the real way.....I hope you do..

I know you're gonna find this a bit difficult to swallow, but you and your friends are actually fulfilling Biblical prophesy.
To answer your question, I'd have to agree...statistics are not to be depended on.
The truth is, there really aren't very many disciples of Christ left in the world today, but that, again, is a fulfillment of prophesy. It probably won't be long now before the world "makes war" with those disciples, and defeats them. The "remnant" another disciple told about will look as if the world has "killed" it...and it will seem to you and your friends as if those pesky Christians who keep on preaching to you about salvation, peace, everlasting life, and the grace of God are finally gone, out of your hair, and will never, ever darken your doorway again. Unfortunately, you'll be right about that much....
But don't get too excited...while you're celebrating, partying, and buying presents for one another, God has not quite finished. He still has a surprise or two for you up His sleeve.
(I peeked at the ending. It goes "and they all lived happily ever after"...Jesus and His disciples, that is. Till that day, I'll be praying for you and your friends. It's not too late...yet...but who knows? It could be closer than anyone thinks.)

Not many.
The statistics are horrendously over-inflated.
Of course, that doesn't stop people from attributing the act of every individual 'Christian' to the whole group. I tried to explain 'secularism' to a Muslim the other day. I grew up around Christians who had never prayed, never attended any religious services, and never cracked a Bible. Among the Bible-belts most religious populations, Christianity is still a stigma in the general population, and is usually met with mild mockery.

For one thing ~ the Vatican's claim of 1 billion Roman Catholics is actually all the people who had been baptized as babies, no matter what they are really practicing (or not).
I was born and raised a Roman Catholic, and I am an 'official' practicing Buddhist, but the Vatican still claims I am a Catholic.

I think what you are saying is true. If Christians began to follow every word in the Bible, we'd be as badly off as the Middle-East. The Bible is a fairly prejudiced and outdated book.
