not only there's heavy pixelation, but some times it just freezes. Any idea what might be wrong with it?

Most probably the disc you try to play is scratched or damaged
(happens a lot with rentals).

Clean the disc as much as possible with a soft cloth. If it is heavily damaged, there is not much you can do.

If it happens with EVERY disc you put, then maybe it is time for a new player.
