1) Get away from rote learning.
2) Differentiate between high school type classes and university.
3) Teach students how to STUDY/RESEARCH, not how to learn (which seems to equate to remembering the latest thing they were taught in order to produce it for an exam then instantly forget it)
4) Reduce the number and frequency of exams/tests. When do the students ever have an opportunity to go to a lecture and hear something new? They are always in a panic about one exam or another. University should be about studying/exploring - not testing.
5) Learning involves making mistakes and learning from those mistakes. The system in Turkey penalises students who do not answer the questions "correctly". Negative points are awarded for every "wrong" answer. This discourages lateral thinking, imagination and scientific experiment.
I teach in Turkey, or try to. These feelings are heartfelt. The problem lies with the system.
Please change the system!!! If you have a vote, use it. If you have a voice, raise it. Thank you!

Good question!
I think there should be more private universities in Turkey; take the government monopoly away and bring in "some" more private sector (not all government is bad). This will keep some of the money (and brain power) going out of the country by those going overseas to study.
This will also allow some to study what they want to study, and not what they can score to study in the general test.
Students that pay for their education are more likely to go to classes than play pi$ti in kahvahane.
Make the private universities, as part of their agreement to operate, offer scholorships to those with a brighter minds than the rest of us.
Replace the political minds in the Education Ministry with fresh ones.
Get away from memorization move towards creative thinking; this is where the money and future is. If you can't lead the future, you cannot be a leader.
Companies should offer internship to students; yes it is slave labor, but good investment for their future.
Keep religion and politics away from science and education.
Stop expecting everything from the government; get involved.
Teach young people they own the government; not visa versa.
Travel, travel and travel more.
Kids that are 6 years old today must be prepared to run the country in 25 years. Stop holding them back. Your social security check depends on it.
Do not allow the same person being the president or priminister more than two four year terms. They need to move on.
Invest to people in the South East, East, North, Middle, and West (in this order).
And last; open up avenues for quality people (like the ones getting involved here) to teach part time as volunteers.

there should not be an exam to go to universities, part from that education is very good in Turkiye...
Also I agree with curious,
I would like to point out this as I have gone to college in England and before that I was in Turkiye, if I am to compare there's nothing wrong with Turkish education system, people are crying out about uni fees etc.. You wanna come and see the fees over here :o)))
But unfortunately most Turks in Turkiye believe that best things are in the west, yes there are a lot of positive points but not as perfect as they think..
As a person: people should educate themselves always..its not that hard anymore, thanks to Internet...

we should give the money to universities which we give to the dersane and other exam preparation clubs. Because of economic problems universities have many obstacles to overcome.
