When you buy pre-sliced ham it's sometimes so thin you can read a newspaper throught it. How do they manage to slice the ham SO thinly without damaging it?

A ham slicer is used which has a guage that is adjusted to cut to the required thickness. Just right for ham rolls and sandwiches.

Packaged ham is normally processed meat that is easier to cut using special machinery, if you look carefully at the label, it is very rarely 100 per cent meat, it will often have a list of ingredients, you will be surprised at what is added.
Stick to Ham off the bone, rather than pre-packaged stuff.

Machine cut just to infuriate me. I have resorted to using three slices as one slice is indefineable in taste . I now prefer to buy it from the deli section and ask for a thicker cut. It is certainly no dearer as I am using one slice instead of three!
