"Is God definitely male? Any religion works under the assumption that He is."
You're incorrect. Several religions honor the Divine as Goddess, including Hinduism, Wicca, and most of the Neo-Pagan faiths.
The Judeo-Christian God is called "He" because Yahweh, the Israelite tribal God from whom He evolved, was a male deity. (There were many Gods and Goddesses worshipped in that part of the world at the time.) The male pronoun has been grandfathered in ever since. ;-)
As far as I'm concerned, having felt the power of the Divine in my religious life, both the God and the Goddess rejoice in the power of women and in the freedoms we have won for ourselves. But I'm Wiccan, and in our religion men and women are at least equals (in some Traditions the priestesses are of higher rank than the priests) -- so my attitude isn't that surprising.
"This isn't striclty what any 'good book' or scripture says women's role is."
Again, not true. Ask any Neo-Pagan what they think a woman's role in religion is. The answers will probably surprise you, since you seem to believe that all religions are modelled on "The Big Three". ;-)

There is a male God the father, but there is also a mother God who is the feminine principle but she is overlooked in most cultures. The Catholics worship her, but they think this is Mary mother of Jesus, but it isn't Mary it's the mother God. Her name is Azna. Throughout history men have been afraid of women having power & they have supressed us, it has only just begun to change very recently from a male dominated world & things are still a long way from being equal. An important point to remember about God is that he/she is perfect, all loving & all knowing so he/she wouldn't have an opinion on 2007's women as everything is just the way it was always meant to be from the very beginning of time.

No one has seen god, our knowledge of god comes frm what we listen and read. It is to be understood that what god means to one?
Generally god is a supreame power, which has ability to create, sustain and destroy. no matter which culture, religion or civilisation u come frm, by large man was considered to be dominating over women, hence the perception of God to be a Male figure.
However if the religeous text are read and interpreted properly God has no form as god is thr is every form possible, god has no gender as god is thr is every soul. Hindu religion to be specific considers the whole universe to be generated frm a devinity called Parvati ( female) and infact in later stages it says man and woman form of god are inseperable hence the Ardhnareshwar form of god i,e, a form which has half man and half women.
Now considering three aspects of god's own existance. Create, Sustain, Destroy. The human interpretation of god starts with a power that created humans and rest of the universe, now considering in most of the living species on earth its only the female form that has the power to give birth, it shd have been Female version of god that shd logicallly be thr, but than even for a woman to be able to give birth it still required a union with man,
so thr is no way a creater can be of Male or Female gender it has to be both.
Coming to the next part,My dear friend god makes no opinion of men or women of any century, its we who decide the rights and wrongs, success and failures, what was considered to be right a century back is no longer right and hence its all relative phenomenon. relative to human's own context, What is important what steps did one take before deciding wether something is right or wrong? did one go through all the possible logics and the most crucial after establishing the understanding of right and wrong did one follow right or gave up to wrong?
As your acceptace of an assumption that God is a HE without doing a proper research. Read ur own religional text and others and u will find thr is no place for a gender bias as the core of any religion. Man and woman are inseperable and so is the form of the power that created them.

Is God definitely male? What matters is that God is God and if the answer to this question really concerns you then you can rest assured that some day you will know.
As to my opinion of what God makes of 2007's women, some are pleasing in his sight, some he is raising up to do good works for his kingdom and others have sold their souls to death. As to status, power and wealth let us not forget 1 Samuel 2:7 The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.
He put those women in the position they are in and to those who much is given, much more is to be expected! A powerful woman with godly integrity can still be pleasing in his sight. U all agree?

Christianity has always had a dubious attitude towards the female, and its odd attitude towards female individuality and full partnership in society is still evident. Much of Christianities attitude towards womankind stems from Judaism, and the churches separation from Pagan feminine deities, although a concession has been made in allowing Mary the status of `Mother of God`, thus promoting Marianism, while condemning all other female `Gods`. God has nothing to do with it, religion is a control mechanism, run by men.

Seems like people relate the masculine to power thats why they make pictures of Goda s a man. Me personally Im wiccan so I believe in a God and Goddess, the whole balance thing. A lot of people think God is neither male nor female.

By very definition God is neither male nor female. As He created people to be equal I rather suspect He is highly delighted that we are beginning to learn.
("He" used here as we have no decent neutral pronoun in English) Not to denote gender.
Incidentally the Bible says that God made both male and female in te same image
And the New Testament says there is no distinction between male and female, we are all one in Christ Jesus.
Your hypothesis needs refining.

God is "Everything". There is nothing but God.
Check it out for your Self.
God is not human but operates the Laws of Nature and the laws of physics and does not sit and judge, love or hate nor partake in any of the human-like pass times so you cannot compare God's view to our own.
More strength to strong women and every one who needs it.
PEACE
p.s. The Bible actually says, "Let US make man and woman in OUR image", and inferes more than one God if you believe that type of thing (Gen 1:26)
Peace

God is neither male nor female. While he refer to God as "He" we do so for several reasons.
We infer a gender on God because we can only think in human terms. Because we think of living things in terms of gender, we refer to God in the same way.
Most Christian denominations refer to God as "He" as opposed to "She" because Jesus came as a man and not a woman.
Another reason is because traditionally the male figure is the protector and the diciplinarian.
While we refer to God as "He" we must remember that God is neither he nor she and is also both he and she. Confusing? Yes, because we can only think in human terms.

God made man in his own image, he formed man in the earth and breathed life into the nostrils, then he took a rib and made woman. It's in the bible. And i would say God loves the 2007 women, your just as important as men; for sure.
