India has the third largest army, the fourth largest air force and the fifth largest navy in the world. Their military uses weapons from Russian and western militarys, as well as their own growing defense industry. Their army has seen action in wars with Pakistan, they supply troops to every UN mission and I think they have few in Iraq. Their air force trains with both the US air force and the RAF on a regular basis and their navy just acquired their second aircraft carrier. They are one of the very few nations able to project military power world wide (China can't do that). They are not a force to be taken lightly.

Your country just bought one of our ships, the USS Trenton LPD-14 and it's in the shipyard being overhauled right now. It has been renamed the INS Jalashva. I know because I am part of a team doing the logistics for it. They got here last November and will be here until either late this summer or early fall.

India was supported by the Soviet Union for decades until the early nineties. As far as technology, they have not striven to go beyond that point. Their numbers, however, partly due to pressure from Pakistan and the Vacuum created by the absence of the soviets, have grown. Whether their training / motivation has grown is still unknown due to the fact that they are untested. They are considered to be a large but relatively unsophisticated force. This, however, is still good for a third world country.

Hi friend,INDIAN ARMY is The 4th biggest Army in the world and probably one of the finest army in terms of Leadership,Traditions ,Compatibility and adopt ability.Technologically we we may not match advanced countries,but then, IT will not help all the time when it comes to conventional fighting and actual grand war.

indian military is the best in the world.
iam not saying this in terms of no. of ships or tanks or fighter planes india possess.but in terms of commitment of its cadres.....
nowhere in this world you will find military men with such calibre,and spirit for their profession.becoming a cadre of indian armed forces is a dream of every indian.
unlike in most other countries ,it's a force that has stood away from the political system .
indian military is known for its discipline and strict code of conduct.baring the recent incidents of a very few rogue officers,it has always worked relentlessly for india since independence....

Manpower wise Indian army is the third largest. Placement and equipment owned, it is an army secret.
