This question is not to cause trouble so please don't think it is. I am asking because I am ignorant to your beliefs. I have always been told that your religion believes only a certain number of people will go to heaven. I always thought it was 200,000 or 250,000 but just read on an old question 144,000. Either way in the 2,007 years since Christ's death don't you think that many people have already found their way to heaven. That is only between 72 and 125 people a year depending on what the total number is. What happens to all the people that did wonderful things in their life that are not one of the chosen ones. I have always believed that every religion interprets the bible differently and I have never said mine was better than the next. I just don't understand yours because according to your own beliefs most of you won't be going to heaven. Is that not what we all hope for. (believers that is)Please forgive me if I am way off base, like I said I am ignorant to your beliefs.

I appreciate all the answers. I am going to have to let the voters decide on best answer because there are some very good ones. I think people that are more knowledgeable than I on this subject would be more capable of picking the best one. I will however check all these things out so I am more able to understand your beliefs. Thanks again.

The vast majority of Jehovah's Witnesses hope to enjoy life ON EARTH forever, rather than in heaven. Jehovah's Witnesses understand heaven to refer to the dwelling place of spirit creatures such as Jesus and the angels. They understand the Scriptures to teach that exactly 144,000 humans will join Christ Jesus as kings and priests to administer God's Kingdom (which will soon replace all earthly governments).
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite
(Revelation 14:1) Lamb [Jesus] standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand
(Revelation 20:6) they will be priests of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him

The men and women who make up the 144,000 are selected by God from among two thousand years of Christians. Over whom will they rule? Over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”

Hell is NOT someplace/something mankind needs to fear; there is no suffering in the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire

Almighty Jehovah God selects those few who have the heavenly calling. Each person "feels" his own hope and each person's hope remains unquestioned by his fellow Christians. Still the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%*) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]

I personally do not feel I am going to Heaven. While yes we do believe 144,000 will be resurected, we feel that this is not an indication of Status or worth. IT is a bit complicated to go over on here, but the way I ussually explain it on here is that if you remember when Jehovah first made Adam and Eve his plan was for them to be fruitful and become many and to cultivate the Earth and fill it with perfect humans. We feel this is still the basic plan. Ultimately who goes where is up to Jehovah. Hope this helps.

PS Thanks for being so polite in your question, many who ask can be incredibly rude. Have a nice night.

Jehovahs Witnesses hold to the Bible as the standard for all their beliefs.
Rev.14:1-3 tells us how many faithful men and women will be leaving the earth and going to heaven and that number is 144,000.These faithful ones will be ruling as kings and priests with Christ over the earth. The ingathering of these ones began at Pentecost 33CE in the upper room where 120 faithful disciples were anointed with holy spirit. This ingathering continued until the number of 144,000 was complete.
The Bible does not teach that heaven is the reward for everyone who is "good".But that God created the earth and purposed mankind to reside on it.Adam and Eve were created perfect and designed to live forever. But as a result of their disobedience and sin they lost everything. They began to age and eventually die.As offspring of Adam we all inherit imperfection and sin and as a result we all age,get sick and eventually die.
However,Jehovah through allowing his only begotten Son Jesus to come to earth as a perfect man and offer that perfect lifeblood as a proprietory sacrifice has give everyone who exercises faith in that ransom the opportunity to regain what Adam had lost. And very soon Jehovah God is going to bring about the end of this wicked system of things and restore the earth to its original paradise condition and all those who remained obedient and faithful will be able to enjoy eternal life. All those asleep in death will be resurrected and given an opportunity to come to know and serve God.

Anyone with even a smattering of knowledge of the history of the Church since the first century A.D. knows that billions of believers have died since then. Even if it's taken as understood that a fairly high percentage of them were coerced, or baptised as babies and didn't grow up to believe in Christianity themselves, there are still MILLIONS of Christians who died prior to 1914. They all had the hope of going to heaven - the "one hope, one faith, one baptism" of scripture applied to them.

The JW idea that only 144,000 people ever go to heaven didn't materialise till the 1930s! Now, if they'd had a bit of common sense, they would have said only 144,000 people SINCE 1914 will get to heaven. That just MIGHT have been arguable (on the basis that only JWs are "true" Christians, that is, which is nonsense, but for the sake of this arguement...) But they insist this number is culled from every believer from the time of Christ till now! The sheer absurdity of this idea is lost on JWs, however, for they believe everything their leaders tell them. And - guess what - those leaders are part of the elite 144,000!

An excellent history book JWs should read is "The Pilgrim Church byt E H Broadbent (*Pickering Classic*). He took a dim view of Roman Catholicism (which should commend him to JWs, who do likewise) and he concentrates on tracing the history of small groups of believers who resisted Rome. Even limiting Christians to that group, his statistics prove millions of them were martyred for faith in Christ, and they all died faithful to the heavenly calling.

I personally think it is great that you are expressing a desire to understand our beliefs. However, as was mentioned by another answerer, you are likely to receive a lot of misinformation here on Y!A from people who dislike Jehovah's Witnesses.

I am going to provide you with a link that should help clear up what our beliefs are on this subject, as well as scriptural reasons for our hope.

I am also including another link that will explain our other beliefs as well as the scriptural reasons behind them.

If you really want to know the truth about us, posing your question in an open forum is not the way to go about it. You no doubt live near one of our Kingdom Halls. You can go there and ask questions to your heart's content. Or you can wait for Jehovah's Witnesses to come to your home personally. Invite them in and "fire away." Posting your question here will only bring out the responses of a number of misinformed people.

The bible itself gives out a complete number of 144,000 marked to go to Heaven and rule with Jesus. I, personally is not one of them. My hope is here on Earth with a prospect of living forever on Paradise Earth. To answer your question, not all Jehovah's Witnesses are marked to go live in Heaven. Please visit www.watchtower.org for our OFFICIAL website. You will find some very satisfying answers.

If you want to know what the witnesses believe,
They believe that 144,000 will rule with Christ in heaven.
They believe that others will be on Paradise earth.
They have a website that will tell all about it www.watchtower.org. Also, you can go to a Kingdom Hall to learn more. The Hereafter—
Where Will It Be?

Eternal Happiness—In Heaven or on Earth?
DOES your happiness depend primarily on where you live? Most people would readily acknowledge that happiness depends more on factors like good health, a purpose in life, and fine relationships with others. A Bible proverb puts it this way: "Better is a dish of vegetables where there is love than a manger-fed bull and hatred along with it."—Proverbs 15:17.

Sadly, however, our earthly home has a long history of hatred, violence, and other forms of wickedness. But what about heaven, or the spirit realm, where many people hope to go after they die? Has it always been a place of blissful peace and tranquillity, without disturbance of any kind, as is commonly supposed?

The Bible teaches that God resides in heaven along with millions of spirit creatures called angels. (Matthew 18:10; Revelation 5:11) These are described as spirit "sons of God." (Job 38:4, 7) Like humans, the angels also have free moral agency; they are not robots. It follows, therefore, that they too can choose to do right or to do wrong. Would angels choose to do wrong? It may come as a surprise to some to learn that thousands of years ago, a considerable number of angels did, in fact, sin against God—they rebelled against him!—Jude 6.

Rebels in Heaven
Sin appeared in the spirit realm because of the rebellion by an angel, who came to be called Satan (Resister) and Devil (Slanderer). This once-obedient angel chose to do wrong of his own free will. Thereafter he became a corrupting influence on other spirit creatures, so that by the time of Noah, prior to the Flood, a large number of them joined Satan in rebellion against God.—Genesis 6:2, footnote; 2 Peter 2:4.

These fallen angels were not evicted from heaven immediately. Rather, their access was tolerated—apparently with certain restrictions—for thousands of years.* However, when God's toleration of these evildoers ended, they were "hurled" out of heaven, ultimately to be destroyed. A voice in heaven then said: "On this account be glad, you heavens and you who reside in them!" (Revelation 12:7-12) Evidently, the faithful angels rejoiced greatly that, at last, the heavens were rid of those vile troublemakers!

Considering these generally unknown details, it is apparent that there can be no true peace whenever intelligent creatures disregard God's laws and principles. (Isaiah 57:20, 21; Jeremiah 14:19, 20) On the other hand, when all obey God's law, peace and tranquillity prevail. (Psalm 119:165; Isaiah 48:17, 18) So if all humans loved and obeyed God and loved one another, would not the earth be a truly delightful, happy abode? The Bible answers yes!

But what about those who selfishly refuse to change their wicked ways? Will they forever disturb the peace of those who truly want to do God's will? No, God dealt with the wicked angels in heaven, and he will also deal with the wicked people here on earth.

An Earth Swept Clean
"The heavens are my throne, and the earth is my footstool," God said. (Isaiah 66:1) Being the very acme of holiness, God will not allow his "footstool" to be soiled by evil indefinitely. (Isaiah 6:1-3; Revelation 4:8) Just as he purged the heavens of wicked spirits, so he will rid the earth of all wicked people, as the following Bible passages show:

"Evildoers themselves will be cut off, but those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth."—Psalm 37:9

"The upright are the ones that will reside in the earth, and the blameless are the ones that will be left over in it. As regards the wicked, they will be cut off from the very earth; and as for the treacherous, they will be torn away from it."—Proverbs 2:21, 22.

"It is righteous on God's part to repay tribulation to those who make tribulation for you, but, to you who suffer tribulation, relief along with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels in a flaming fire, as he brings vengeance upon those who do not know God and those who do not obey the good news about our Lord Jesus. These very ones will undergo the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction from before the Lord and from the glory of his strength."—2 Thessalonians 1:6-9.

"The world [of wicked mankind] is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever."—1 John 2:17.
