It seems anonymity breeds poor manners and the idea that one may say whatever they feel, no matter how nasty it might be. Or are this many people really rude?

Cool. My avatar looks snotty and preppy. I actually have a duck farm and three kids. Tells ya what appearances are, doesn't it?

The question was

"DOES ANYONE ELSE GET UPSET AT THE RUDENESS, OR IS THIS HOW PEOPLE ARE NATURALLY?"

Hope that helps some.

Kmennie... Actually, I was referring to a rude answer to Someone Elses question. Someone had asked about kittens, and a VERY rude person responded that the asker should have their pet fixed and people like that "Make me sick".... While it may be a valid point, it's still Rude.

If TJ is so smart, why does he have such a low percentage of best answers? Is it that people just don't recognize brilliance?

Oh, yeah, and I can't complain about rude answers to My questions. I ask intentionally inflamatory questions, and expect rudeness. It's a ploy to get more stars.

NO.. I'm genuinly rude.. its hard for me being in the top 100 most intelligent people on this planet.. it really is.. the amount of UTTER ignorance out there is truly stifling.. in fact.. I can hardly go on in this life without being rude to people.. I've contemplated suicide so many times now.. purely because knowing and being able to do nothing.. due to societies total and utter ignorance.. is very very difficult to live with.. take the Iraq war for example.. that hurt me so much.. because i knew on day one it was going to be a major blunder.. and I;ve been 100% right on everything.. to the point my share portfolio did 120% for the last 5 years simply by ignoring what everyone else believed.. I make money at will now.. I dont even work.. I just make money when I need to.. as I have worked out so many things about this world.. if only others would listen .. but everyone else thinks THEY are the smarty ones.. no one ever gives me much credit.. and so I continue to be rude whenerver I feel like it.. but mostly to challenge people's thoughts.. not to hurt them..

Your not alone. The rudeness I've encountered is really unpleasant and does take some of the enjoyment out of this activity. I think the anonymity does give people more freedom to say whatever they're thinking. Sometimes it just depends on whether or not they've had a good day or a bad one and how they might be responding to a particular question. They really shouldn't forget their manners. Because it really isn't acceptable behavior.

People are more rude when they can post anonymously, many people who do that wouldn't have the guts to be this rude in person, but online they do.

But no, I don't let it bother me, I'm not easily upset even when someone does get rude to me off-line, mostly, I'll either ignore them or give them the same thing back and five minutes later I'll forget about the whole thing. It's not worth my time and energy to get upset about.

I got curious at some point, and started looking at the original questions whenever I saw a "I just posted a question here and people were really mean to me!!" pseudo-question.

Without fail, these people had asked something stupid. Poorly written "I am too lazy to Google" stuff. Or the question would've admitted to doing something absurd.

And, without fail, they got useful information, with surprisingly mild "rudeness." One or two people would say "Why didn't you think about that some more? Anyway, the answer is..."

Hmm.

And, there's nothing rude about disagreeing. This site would be much less useful if people couldn't feel free to express opinions. And people not wanting said opinions are free to not ask.

Whinging about rudeness, real or imagined, isn't polite, either. If you can't say anything nice...

Yes, rudeness irritates me. But, sometimes, after second thoughts, I will start to wonder if that person is really rude, or just protecting themselves or, like in the case of holding the door open for the person behind you, one starts to wonder why i should be the one doing it (holding the door open) while so many others don't or take for granted.

anonymity also breeds true opinions; to many people hide behind their cowardice to have someone shoot down their opinions in real life, so just go with the flow.

Imagine what the world would be life if someone could post how much they though Hitler was a closet homosexual during WW2?

I think your right, I have never heard such talk , some of it I never even imagined people think of. some of the questions here make you think how on earth did they think of such a gross question, I think they are looking for attention in the wrong way. Its always a treat to find and talk to a nice person
