Try hitting some thrift stores and picking up some old records! You can use the covers for decor and play the vinyl. You can even make bowls for you munchies out of the records by putting a glass or metal bowl upside down on a cookie sheet, take a small piece of polymer clay, (from a craft store) I use black, put it in the hole. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees, place the album on the bottom of the bowl and put it in the oven as it heats up you can shape the record over the bowl. It will be sort of fluted or wavy, just so you get a good bowl shape to it. If you center the lable of the record over the bottom of the bowl it should set flat. You can usually get the albums for .25 or .50 cents each. and a block of clay will cost about $1.
Disco was really the late 70's early 80's. My photo albums are full of bell bottoms and halter tops in the seventies and lotss of polyester in the 80's!LOL
More tye-dye and black lights. You can get black lights at spencer gifts! even the posters!!!

Well, the music is obvious....pupular dishes back then were fondues, casseroles, dips with vegies, (all viable still today). Cocktails must include the "Harvey Wallbanger"! Those are the times I entertained the most & I really don't remember dishes that stand out...sorry! Oh.....quiche) But I did think of a funny dress requirement......all guests, including men, must wear PLATFORM SHOES!!! Wouldn't that be hilarious? What a hoot! For decos...70's band posters would really set the times..go to a record store & pick out the most obvious & silly ones(like Kiss or Journey)...Have a great time, happy birthday, do the Hustle & rock on!!!

Fondue,fondue,fondue...the ultimate seventies dish. You can have a chocolate one with banans, strawberrys' marshmallows, etc, and you can have acheese one wiht, carrots, celery, crackers, bread, etc. This dish was huge in the seventies and they are very cheap to buy. Decoration wise I would put lots of animal prints around like leaopard rugs etc very tacky but very 70's, also the old disco ball with lava lamps. Goodluck and Happy Birthday.

I was a teenager of the seventies...try "tie-dye" decorations... Peter Max type posters would be good too...you can google and create these yourself. Bellbottoms, blue-jean workshirts over crop tops, clogs and sandals, floppy hats with flowers, blue eye shadow and love beads do well too. Candles, flowers and Innagoddadavida and Led Zepplin music... How about the song "war.. What it is good For... absolutely nothin'"! Incense and blacklights and strobe lights too. Lotsa crunchy/munchie food--slow cooker stuff. Man, this question brings it all back!!!
Thank you much...lol..such good, naive times!!!

Fondue was big in the 70's, I know because I was there. It is easily prepared ahead of time and can either be savory with a cheese fondue with vegts. or bread as dippers or sweet with a chocolate fondue with fruit or cake pieces as dippers. Fondue pots can be found at your local mass marketing store. Hope this helps....
