i personally dont care if they do make coats out of dogs/cats, it is the same as using domesticated cows for meat.

as for the people who say it isnt humane how they kill them, you surely cant think all other animals are killed humanely. Though i do have a question. Is this illegal EVERYWHERE or just in the US

We are not the only country to ban it. And one reason why we do is the animals are not treated or kept in a humane manner. This is not the case at all. I personally would like to see a ban on all fur use except in the case of animals that are used for food. Such as cows, there should be no reason not to use the hide of an animal who has been humanely kept and killed in humane manner for food. We do NOT skin Cow's alive the way these cats and dogs are being killed in china. They are kept in cruel conditions there is a difference.

The sale of items to be known to have dog/cat fur even if it was legal would not be a popular item in America. I doubt it would be profitable since they are pets in these countries and are not considered for other use. Most Americans would cringe at owning something with dog fur and coming home to face their pet fluffy. Unfortunately some of these furs from countries like China, Korea and Japan slip through the cracks and end up in the US and Canada marketed as fake or other fur. Unknowingly people buy them. Quite recently we came across an item from China that was marketed as fake, but I am most certain the item was in fact made from dog fur. I was appalled.

The other concern is when these animals are killed with high levels of chemicals in the UK a investigator found a high level of a dangerous chemical on a toy that contained fur the levels were high enough to cause damage to children's DNA.

The EU is looking into banning dog and cat fur. France, Italy, Greece, Belgium and Denmark have all banned the fur.

Wrong again, "verminator." As of 2000, it is, in fact, illegal to import domestic dog and cat fur (see public law 106 - 476: the Federal Dog and Cat Protection Act of 2000). Intentionally importing and selling dog fur is a federal crime punishable by a $10,000 fine for each violation. People really ought to do a bit of easy research, before they open their mouths and spread misinformation about such matters. Like it or not, facts are facts, and it's a fact that importing dog and/or cat fur is illegal.

The details of the law can be found at the following link to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website; as far as I'm concerned, the details of the act fully explain why it is an illegal act:

In America, they try to butcher the cows as humanely as possible. Other countries do not necessarily have this policy. There are people who sell dog fur that skin it alive and leave it to a slow and extremely painful death. I don't necessarily agree with using animals for our own, shall I say, pleasure but I can definitely see why it is illegal.

If we could import and make clothes with the fur of dogs and cats, people would starts killing any cat or dog they see. I think that importing real fur whatever animal it is should be illegal. Cats and dogs change our world and we wouldn't be where we are today with out them.

Because it is a cultural thing. Most people in America see dogs/cats as pets where as in South Korea they see eating dog a a delicacy. It's not fair for us to say that it is wrong or right because we all see the purpose of dogs/cats differently. I guess it depends on where you are from and the culture that surrounds you. I do understand what you are saying though...

I personally own a Siberian Husky and have always wondered how many sweaters I could make out of her fur since she tends to shed A LOT. lol!

I don't know but just because America domesticates cows doesn't mean its right either. Two wrongs don't make a right. Also see some of the videos of the dogs being skinned alive, this might change your opinion.

Probably because permitting it would encourage folk here to begin domestic manufacture using your pets.
