He's an un-neutered male cat who has never been gone for more than 3 nights before ever until now. and it's been cold outside too and right now it's snowing and i'm hoping that will drive him home. i've been calling him and calling him for days now.

I just got off the phone with the animal shelter and gave them a description of my cat and they are going to keep a look out for him and call me if someone turns him in. I also saw tracks in the snow lastnight and think that might be his way of telling me he's around and ok and that would make me happy but this morning they were all filled in with snow again and I didn't see anymore. Oh well, going to make some posters to put up too and hopefully that all will help unless he comes home on his own in the mean time.

And to the people criticizing me for not having him neutered, it's a work in progress. I have another cat and a dog as well that aren't spaded or neutered. my female cat is inside 24-7 and Dozer goes outside for days on end, and if he is knocking up someone elses cat, then they should have got her fixed and atleast I'm not the one that has to worry about kittens. lmfao.

Well it depends really if the cat is an indoor cat or not. One of my barn cats left for weeks at time and still came home. Our house cats dont go out often, but they usually come within a day or two.
Have you tried calling shelters and pounds? They are usually quite helpful in situations like these.

Why would you let an unneutered male outside in the first place? To make more unwanted kittens?

He may keep going farther and farther away. As long as he can scent a female in heat anyway. There is always a chance that something terrible happened. Outdoor cats can get attacked by other animals or hit by cars. There are also very cruel people out there...I've seen cats poisoned and clubbed.

I live in the country. When I first moved here a stray cat showed up out of nowhere. She's a tortoise shell and looks exactly like one of mine. I welcomed her. She had kittens, after that I got her spayed and then she disappeared.

About 6 months later, she showed up again. I couldn't believe it. Kinda skinny and a lot of fleas. I got her healthy and she disappeared again.

About 6 months later, she shows up again. It's so weird. She obviously has a family somewhere else and nowhere near where I live. She's been doing this for 4 years now.

She's an indoor/outdoor cat and I guess one day she just decides to go back to her other family. She's with me now, but I figure she'll disappear again about mid summer.

Cats are not stupid. If yours has only been gone 5 days, there is a good chance that it will come back home.

Before I moved to the country, I lived in town and a cat hater was trapping my cats and taking them to the animal shelter. They were disappearing and I didn't know why.

My daughter told me that one of my cats was down at the shelter to be adopted. I went to get him and he had already been adopted.

A few days later, he showed up at my house. I don't know how far away the adoptee lived, but he came home to me. He's still living with me out here in the country and loves it.

Don't give up hope. Miracles do happen. You know cats have a mind of their own. If we could only understand them!!

I had a cat that went missing one Spring. We searched and searched. Then, around Thanksgiving time, I was backing the car out of the garage and heard a loud yowling. (I had gotten another cat a short time earlier.) I thought for sure I had ran over the cat! But, to my great surprise, my missing cat had returned! Her paws were all swollen, maybe from walking a long ways? I don't know. But other than being rather thin, she looked great. I never believed the stories of animals walking long distances, etc., to get back home. But, something sure happened to my kittie and how she ever got back home. Sorry I can't give you a shorter answer on your question. But, hang in there. Please check out the local humane shelters and maybe even put up ads at pet stores. Petco has bulletin boards you can put up a notice for your missing pet. Good luck to you.

If your cat is not sterilized it can be gone for a long time for they roam a radius of 10 miles but if your cat is fixed then it will be close to home.
The sad part of it is that when you let your cat roam it is in alot of danger and could be dead. The only way to prevent from worrying is to not let your cat roam and keep it inside where it is safe.
Cats can be very content and will be happier and healthier if they live inside. If you want your cat to go out then get an enclosure to keep it safe and protected.

You didn't say if it was a Tom or a Queen but Tom's go 'missing' for days and thats quite normal (ours went missing for over a week and came back looking like butter wouldn't melt - had us frantic with worry). I don't think it's as common for a queen to go missing for long because unlike the Tom their territory is much smaller and they are not driven by the need to go in search of a 'lady friend' if you catch my drift.

One of my neighbor's cats was gone for almost a month. She put up posters and someone found and returned him. My other neighbor's cat was gone 7 months when they suddenly saw her going through the trash.

Why are you letting an un-neutered pet outside in the first place. He is probably off getting every stray in the neighborhood pregnant!

The longest our cat was missing was two days and it didn't "come home" because it never left. It had gotten itself stuck in the garage.
