I am a smoker, for 35yrs now. I have tried to quit twice in the last year, and failed. I will try again, not right now though. I don't have health issues related to smoking, I do have other health problems. My mother is a smoker,60yrs now. She was also diagnosed with early stage lung cancer, five years ago. She was treated with chemo/radiation, and smoked the entire time and still smokes now. She has been declared cancer free, and doesn't have anymore appt with the oncology doc. She doesn't believe that smoking causes cancer, she prefers to say that it could have been the weeds she and her cousins would pull from the ground and roll up in leaves to smoke. She also doesn't believe in second hand smoke causing cancer, and if people choose to walk away from her when she lights up, she doesn't care. She is 70yrs old now and I know she will smoke till the end, and frankly, she probably will tell us to put a cigerette in her mouth before we close the casket, and we will, but to never acknowledge that smoking might cause cancer, is just crazy.

I gave up 18 months ago at 26 years old after smoking for 13 years.
when I was just 22 the doctors told me they could hear the damage in my lungs,I even had the "smokers cough" like I was 60 years old.

i actually am a smoker and it's horrible and i'm trying to quit. i get colds all the time and when i do its painful and a cough up phlegnm. many smokers develop chronic bronchitis (which is why you see smokers coughing all the time). good luck on your paper. =)

My dad used to smoke 24/7. He used to smoke a pack a day. I made him feel guilty about it and then he realized it's not for me, it is for him. So now he stopped forever.
