What they don't tell you in DARE program, or where ever you learned about tobacco is that cigs give you a buzz, and slightly alter your state.
Most people say it calms them, but it shoots me up.
Random side note for the sake of arguing, whats so bad about the poisons? it takes years off of your life...when you're 80. So? what're you gonna do when you're 80 haha

It was the in thing to do at the time but now I have quit for 15 1/2 years now.

Out of boredom. When I started attending a vocational school I started smoking for 3 months but then I realized it was a waste of money. I'm all good now.
