I smoked for 1.5 years... I am 21. I am more wondering if smoking can cause asthma and/or if there is anything more I can do. I quit a month ago (34 days)

It will take awhile for your lungs to recover. Just take it slow and don't push yourself too hard. A great running program for getting started is the Couch to 5K program from Cool Running.

Just start out slowly ............. and gradually build up to your goal. In order to get your lungs back in shape (depending on how long you've smoked - they may never be 100%)you will need to do some kind of cardio. activity. Start by running the area of 1block or less and do this may be two or three times a day, eventually you will build up the endurance to breathe............

I quit 15 years ago after smoking for 17 years and last year I finnished a 50 mile ultra run. I would say it takes about 6 month's. Remember it takes aerobic excersize to condition your lungs. Good Luck!:)

You need to start off with walking or some exercises first and build up to running. If you are out of shape and start off running it could be, not a good thing. Congratulations on quiting. That's a huge step. You should be very proud of yourself. Don't rush into a lot of strenuous exercises; build up to them. You don't need a heart attack.

It depends on the amount of damage you have done. How long you smoked. And whether or not you have contracted any lung disease. I smoked for forty years. I have infazema. (I know I didn't spell it right) I will never recover. Ther is no cure. It is fatal. It is a very slow death. Plus smoking gave me cardio vascular desease. (Which is cloging of the arteries.)

How long ago did you quit. It might take some time for your lungs to recover and for you to build up endurance. Relax and thank you for not smoking.

HOPEFULLY, you will get your lungs back. Just because you quit, doesn't mean the damage isn't permanent. You should see your doctor and/or pulmonologist.

Sorry.
