The most unique part of the nutrition in yogurt is live and active cultures. Most contain L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, L. acidophilus, Bifidus, L. casei, and L. reuteri. These improve your gastrointestinal system and help your immune system.

For vegan sources, you have two options. One is vegan yogurt, your local grocery or health food store may carry some made by Stonyfield, Silk, or WholeSoy. Silk even makes a yogurt shake in several flavors which is quite good.

The second is pills -usually bifidus, acidophilous, or a combination. Many of these pills must remain refrigerated to keep the cultures active.

If you are a very strict vegan, you may want to make sure they are not using dairy products to grow the cultures. Silk is a nondairy source.

Yogurt is very healthy, as long as it doesnt have alot of added ingredients, artificial flavors, etc. I make it homemade using nothing but fresh, raw milk, straight from the cow. Alternatives to get probiotics in your system would be kefir, or a probiotic supplement, or acidopholus liquid from a health food store.

edit: if you are looking for vegan versions, try soy or rice yogurt, also easily made at home

Yogurt is VERY good for you if you eat the right brands. Brands like dannon and yoplait use a lot of sugar and you might as well be eating ice cream however if you buy stonyfield yogurt or brown cow they are all natural and very very healthy! Also..Kefir is simillar to yogurt but a little bit different. It is very good for you and very good for digestion. It comes in all kinds of flavors...here is a website about it

If you're gonna go down the soy yogurt road, don't buy any brand except Silk. Maybe I've just had bad luck, but every other brand I've tried is absolutely disgusting. Silk is pretty good, though.

I eat soy yogurt...
Stony Feild Farm's to be exact =]

But if you don't like the texture or something then I'm not 100% sure.
I'd say peanut butter?

keep eating yoghurt! But only eat organic, lowfat, and plain yoghurt without a lot of added sugar. Add your own fruit, granola, honey or maple syrup. Read the labels! and know what you're buying.
