Ive been stopped smoking for 2 1/2 years now and i have no cravings at all, but i have heard about some people who have been stopped for longer and still get cravings, so it must be different person to person.

The cravings will always be there, it's about the way you deal with them psychologically. I quit 8 months ago and still get the odd one, but the benefits of not smoking outweigh dealing with a craving.
My dad quit 20 years ago and still gets a craving but very rarely.

The physical withdrawal from nicotine only lasts 2-3 days, but the psychological dependence is very long lasting. Nicotine sets up complex and deep seated pathways in the brain which also involve the pleasure centre. This is also why a single cigarette even after a hugh length of time can kick start the addiction!

It is generally accepted that after 2 years without smoking the statistics are in favour of you staying off, but even then it is not guaranteed.

After 72 hours (it takes that long for your body to clear out all traces of nicotine) all physical cravings will end......it takes about 14 days from the moment you quit for your entire body to get used to not dealing with all the chemicals smoking ciggarettes brings into the body.

I stopped smoking for eight years and could have killed for a cigarette every time I passed someone in the street smoking for every single day of those eight years. For others though, the craving goes completely and they can't abide even the smell. I suppose it's up to you, if you can convince yourself enough that it is a filthy habit, you might escape my fate :-(

It depends on your conviction to quit. I quit 2 years ago but sometimes i still get the urge and sometimes i think if I was in a situation I might be forced to smoke. So i make sure not to put myself in a compromising situation.
I think its better to quit what made you start smoking in the first instance. My case was drinking. So when i am not drinking i dont think about a smoke.
I hate gum so that never worked out for me.

For many years after giving up, I still wanted a cigarette but craving did go away. Strange that I cannot recall when I lost the desire for a cigarette, I estimate after about five years.

Good Luck staying off the weed.
