I've tried so many different indian dishes, everyone i have ends up tasting like a bowl of slop, every mouthful has the same taste, to the point where a quarter of a way through it i have to really force myself to finish it, i have indian friends who have introduced me to plenty of dishes, i;ve travelled alot and havent found any other food so bland. Even a boring english roast has real variety not one bland taste. so why is it so popular in the uk???????

I don't like any food where its just one hot spice throughout the dish, blasts out your tastebuds, and leaves you not being able to taste any part of it.

Give me food where you can fully taste all the different elements.. like the potatos, steak, carrots and peas - or the chips and the fish. Yes English food miladdo - or a good chinese.

firstly you cant say Indian food is flavourless/bland because about more than 1.8 billion people eat INDIAN FOOD DAILY, so don't know what you are chatting about and that's way more than Chinese food. And Indian food always contains plenty of vitamins because of the spices/chillies which are considered to be good for health. Its popular because it has more choices and more flavours than Chinese food. its really popular in UK because there are now lots and lots of nearby Indian restaurants near you than ever so people just go to the nearest restaurant/takeaway. I think you should go to India and try out the Indian dishes there and see for your self the difference between Indian food in UK and Indian food in India and you will find a huge difference because in India everything is prepared fresh on daily basis and most people now days travel to India from around the world to just try out the Indian cuisine. But i still prefer both (Fish and Chips) & Indian food because they are both awesome. Hope this helps .

It's simple, really. The chilis contain chemicals which induce health and well-being. Here's an extract from an article that you might find interesting:

Chilli Health: Chillis are loaded with vitamin A, a potent antioxidant and boost to the immune system. As the pods mature and darken, high quantities of vitamin C are gradually replaced with beta carotene and the capsaicin levels are at their highest. Due to these capsaicin levels, some believe that eating chillis may have an extra thermic affect, temporarily speeding up the metabolic rate, hence burning off calories at a faster rate. Whatever, you certainly do sweat and actually cool down in hot climates as sweat evaporates. Your nose runs, your head clears ... you can breath! And with that extra flow of saliva, the gastric juices also flow. The alkaloids from the capsaicin stimulate the action of stomach and intestine improving the whole digestion process!

Beyond soothing gastric wonders and taste delights, the very nature of fiery capsaicin has been medicinally beneficial down through the ages and put to use for some chronic health woes. These same heat inducing properties have a cumulative effect and over time are believed to alleviate pain when used in transdermal treatments for arthritis, nerve disorders (neuralgia), shingles and severe burns ... even cluster headaches. The mucus thinning properties promote coughing and can act as an expectorant for asthmatic conditions. Other claims are boosts to the immune system due to the antioxidants, lowering cholesterol, and blood thinning properties beneficial for the heart and blood vessels.

I hope this was of interest!

Indian food has officialy taken over fish & chips and any other cuisine as the most popular take away in the UK. Indian food has many different flavours going on. Garlic, ginger, corainder, chillies, turmeric. The food that you get in restaurants is nowere near the homemade food & if you had that i think you would change your mind. I love classic english dishes and think that indian food just doesnt suit your tastebuds. Indian food that is well made & fresh is never bland.

You obviously haven't tasted my mother in law's Indian food - the best I have ever tasted - and this is coming from someone who doesn't really like curry. Perhaps you could try a dish from another region, or even some vegetarian dishes (where the subtlety is astonishing) - there are plenty to choose from.

Not everybody has the same taste.I find Indian food to be really nice, and can distinguish the difference in dishes.Maybe you just aren't sensitive to some of the ingredients in Indian food so don't get the full benefit? Most people I know really enjoy it especially compared to bland English stuff. It is probably your tastebuds missing/not picking up on certain spices etc..

"Bring me the blandest thing on the menu!" Friend of mine loves Chinese but can't stand Indian, which is a real pain going to eat out with them cos I love Indian food. Personal taste, but 20 gazillion Indian restaurant's in the UK can't be wrong.
