I have heard that the biggest 'sin' is to not believe in god. And that not believing in god is an unforgivable sin and that you will go to hell for it. in my country (sweden) almost everyone are atheists. Do you think that we will all go to hell?

I have always pictured heaven as a place for the good people and hell as a place for the bad. But don't you think a person can be good and nice and kind and still not believe in god? Do they deserve to go to hell? And don't you think there are a lot of bad people that believe in god? Do they deserve to go to heaven?

Because of the answers I got from some peolpe I just wanted to make it clear that I am not nor will I even be a christian. I do not believe in neither heaven nor hell, and therefore I am not concerned about where I will end up after I die. I asked this question simply out of curiosity.

I think what is not clear is what heaven or hell is........

Heaven is the throne of God......it is for those that believe in God...only those who want God are there...

Hell is the absence of God.....it is for those that DO NOT believe in God...only those who DO NOT want God are there...

No good person has to go to hell.... but he cannot get there by being good on his own, because each person has their own standards of goodness.....many people call evil good, and good evil.. this is confusion...heaven is for those who accept God and his standards of goodness....

so as long as you are still alive, you do not have to go to hell, and you can go to heaven..because you can still make a choice to believe in God and his goodness and standards. Jesus came to show us the way...if you follow him... you will not get lost in the next life...you will end up in the right place

believing that God exists is not enough...even the devil believes in God...giving your heart to God is what counts...Heaven is a place for those who love God.

The Bible says that every person was given a measure of faith. How can God punish people who never had the opportunity to hear about Him? God reads the heart. Any time you do something wrong and it hurts your conscience...that is God. The Bible says we are responsible for learning what we can and then what we don't know, God winks at...or over looks it. In this world today there is so much information and it is up to each one of us to research and then search our hearts. God is not willing that any should perish and He freely gives of His gifts. The first time God cleaned the earth He placed His people in the ark and cleansed with water. The second and final time He will clean the earth with fire. He will take His people to heaven while the earth is being cleaned and then we will come back to live as it was at the time of Eden where there will be no more sin or suffering and no more tears will flow from our eyes. The reason God didn't destroy Lucifer aka Satan when he fell from grace is because all the rest of His creation would obey from fear and not from love. He would not turn His creations into robots, but, gave them the power of choice. God shows us in so many ways of His existence but because we enjoy our lifestyles we don't want to acknowledge Him because it would involve change on our part. I know that creation is true because you would have to ask yourself...which came first, the blood or the ability to form a blood clot. You would not need the blood clot first as there was no blood and if the blood came first then the first organism would have bled to death. God loves us so much that He would not force us into His kingdom. If you would not be happy with the lifestyle there then He surely would not make you go. Mmm

While not personally Christian, I, too, must echo this point. Every Christian sect, be it Catholicism, Evangelical, Mormon, etc...believes in the same general principles. Those seem to be if you are good and do what the Bible tells you, you will go to heaven. However, these same faiths are reading from the same book (with the exception of the Mormon's) and yet they feel that other faiths are going to hell because they don't believe the right things. This seems to be the greatest fault in Christianity. Please allow me to explain.

Say you are on the typical street corner in the US. On Corner A, you see a Catholic Church (please understand, I'm not picking on a particular faith, just using examples of Christianity in general). On Corner B, you have a Lutheran Church. On Corner C, a Baptist Church and Corner D, an Evangelical Church. All four churches read from the same book, the Holy Bible, albeit in different "translations." For purposes of this example, on a typical Sunday morning, all four church elders are going to be giving the same talk from the pulpit - "The Fires of Hell." Each of them are going to be reading from the same scriptures, quoting the same "words of God" and emphasizing the same key point, that being, if you don't believe what God tells you, you're going to burn in hell forever. Each minister is saying that only those that are hearing his word (the ministers, not God's) are learning the truth, thus making the words of the other three ministers, well, wrong. So, each minister is telling his parishioners that all the members of the other three churches are blasphemers and are going to hell for their misguided beliefs.

This goes on every single day. And yet, not once, has anyone actually READ the Bible. Sure, you hear the words and you mull them around a bit, but for the most part, you hear what the church wants you to hear - "Believe what I say and you will be blessed, ignore me and you will die."

The contradiction comes from Matthew 7:1 and John 7:24 - Judge not, that ye be not judged." But in John (7:24) Jesus says we should "judge righteous judgment." And Paul (1 Cor.2:15, 5:12-13, 6:2-3) tells Christians to judge everyone -- believers, non-believers, even the angels are to be judged by "the saints." So, what are we to believe.

Common sense dictates that if we truly wish to live an honorable life, we must live as Jesus did. Say the right things (Matthew 12:37), do the right things (Psalms 62:12), believe the right things (Romans 3:28) and do and believe the right things (together - James 2:17)

Now, as a Pagan, I would also have to add that most religions, Christian, Muslim, Jew, and Pagan faiths alike, all seem to have the same single guiding principle: Love thy neighbor as thyself...Do unto others as you'll have done unto you...and any other millions of quotes that sum up to: as long as you are a good person, doing good things, not harming others and with as little malice in your heart, God/Allah/Buddha/The Great Giant Spaghetti Monster will look down favorably upon you and you will live a blessed life.

Heaven and Hell are what we make of it. It is what we personally believe it to be. Ask any 10 people what their version looks like and you'll get 10 different answers.

You ask a great question.

As a Christian, here is what we believe. The Bible says, "All have sinned and fallen short of God's glory." So that means even "good" people have sinned at some point in their lives.

God requires blood sacrifice to atone for sin, enough blood to cause death of something or someone. Also, it can't be just any blood. It has to be perfect, uncontaminated blood.

In the old days, God allowed His people of offer the blood sacrifices of physically perfect animals for sin, so He and people could still be in contact.

Here comes the good part. The Gospel, or The Good News is that Jesus Christ (the physical form of God) came to earth as a human baby, lived a perfect and sinless life, then offered his perfect blood as atonement for all of the sin of mankind.

As soon as we are given this information, it is our responsibility to check it out and make a decision about whether or not --

1.We should admit to being a sinner and

2.If so, will we accept Jesus as the savior we need to be reconciled to God.

I have heard your country is mostly atheistic, but that doesn't make them good or bad. It makes them like the rest of the world. Sinners in need of a savior.

Please give this some thought.

It is not for any of us here to determine where you will spend eternity. Only God can look upon the heart.

I saw a lot of posters here state that the only unforgiveable sin was blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. What is blasphemy? As defined by the dictionay blasphemy means abuse of or contempt for God or sacred things; cursing or reviling God; pronouncing the ineffable name of God; any speech or action contemptous of something deemed sacred. To me, that all boils down to utter rejection of the Holy Spirit, namely God.

I also saw one comment on here that a loving God would not condemn His people to a hell. God doesn't condemn us. We condemn ourselves by our own actions or inactions. We make the choice here of where we're going to spend eternity, not God.

He has given us all the information we need to choose. It's up to us. That's called free will. There are an awful lot of people out there who are good and kind and nice who might or might not be awfully surprised come judgement day. There are an awful lot of people that others don't think deserve to be allowed to enter into heaven, but will. But when that time comes, every knee will bow and every tongue confess who is God. And His judgement will be seen to be fair. And there will be no argument against it.

Just remember, none of us deserve heaven, none of us can do anything to earn a place there. That's why it's called grace, it is an undeserved gift.

I am often reminded of the verse in Psalms or Proverbs (?) where it says only fools trust in man and it is better to be a fool for God.

I think you must find the answer to your question in your own heart and not here on a question/answer forum.

Have a great day!!!

You have to repent and be forgiving of your sins. The Bible says, that we all were born in sin and shaped in iniquity. And the Bible also say their is not one that is righteous. So the main key here is to repent and be forgiving and believe on the name Jesus Christ and trust him to lead you in the right direction and he will. And also developed you a prayer life and communicate with God on a daily basis. There are many people that are good but that doesn't mean they are going to heaven; there are many people that does evil things, but yet believe in God, that doesn't mean they are going to heaven. There is not any sin, so much as a grain of a mustard seed is getting into God's kingdom; God hate sin. So the only way you can enter into heaven is by repenting and doing what God require for you to do. Believing not in God is a sin; the Bible says if you don't believe in God you are condemned already, means you are hell bound. If you will, please read the Bible. Not just any Bible. The Bible you should read is the King James Version. There is so much more that I want to say about this, but don't have the time to explain it on yahoo answers. That's why I'm asking you to read the King James Version Bible. Please do that for me, it will bless you.

Thanks.

The unforgivable sin is denying the Holy Spirit who, if you are a believer (Christian) dwells within you and guides you, convicts you of your sins and to repent and change. Without the Holy Spirit living in you and convicting you, you will not change, and will remain in your old sin nature (Adamic nature). That is a choice we must all make and live or die (eternally) with. And yes, you will end up in hell, no matter where you live or how many others around you refuse to believe. Without Jesus perfect sacrifice, atonement for your sins, we would all die in our sins and go to hell. Being good or bad is not the determining factor to hell or heaven as we humans cannot earn our way to heaven. Being good or bad is the result of the choice we make, which master to choose, to follow. Yes, alot of people who allow sin to rule their lives (bad people), do believe. Head knowledge doesn't get it either. Even satan has this. He believes in Jesus and trembles (biblical). You must choose to have a relationship with Jesus, our mediator to God (biblical). We christians do not make the rules, we just try to follow them and tell others about them so that they may have the same eternal life with God that we are assured we will have (also biblical). Read the Bible, God's manual for living!!

Well, loveless, the problem is that the Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." This means that, no matter what we do, we cannot be saved because of our own good deeds. The only way that we can be saved is through the grace of God and by believing in Him and His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus died on a cross, having been the only person to ever live a completely sinless life, and sacrificed Himself to bridge the gap between sinful man and a holy and sinless God.

And, yes, a person CAN be good and nice and kind and still not believe in God, but it doesn't do him/her any good in the end. We all DESERVE to go to hell, but God is merciful and kind, and loves us even though we are unclean in His sight. That's why He sent His Son to die, so that we can be saved through Him.

I hope you do chose Christ, there is no other way to heaven. It says in the Bible that our works are considered as "filthy rags" compared to the righteousness of Christ. The best thing that you could possibly do in life is to accept the fact that Jesus died for YOU! Yep, YOU were on His mind while He was on the cross, and He died to give you a chance to be saved.

God Bless!

The Bible tells us that all people willfully and knowingly rebel against God's law (sin). It tells us that any sin separates us from God and the punishment for sin is spiritual death (hell). If not believing in God was unforgivable, no one could go to heaven. If you die with out trusting Christ as your God and forgiver, you will go to hell.

I know a lot of good people that are not Christians. I also know a lot of people that say they believe in God but are not good people. Even Satan believes in God.

Your belief must affect your life or it is not true faith.

I hope this helps. Be blessed.

Christianity consists of a lot more than just saying that you believe in God. Jesus said that even the demons in Hell believe that there is a God. Christianity is a way of life that begins when you decide to let God have control of your life. Christianity is about a relationship with the Creator, and loving the people around you. If you really are interested in finding out about true Christianity just buy a Bible that is "red lettered"(this means the words of Jesus are in red print) and read just the red letters. What Jesus had to say is truly life changing, regardless of whether or not you believe in God.
