With the exception of Tofu and Tempeh, repackaged vegan alternatives are loaded in chemicals. Your mom is doing you a favor by not buying them. They should be something you eat rarely.

What you might ask her for is at least one of Sarah Kramer's cook books. check out http://govegan.net

They're loaded with info and very simple recipes.

Stick with the basics. Whole grains. Brown Rice. A variety of veggies and fruits. Nuts. Beans. There are so many kinds of fruits, veggies and beans you practically never have to eat the same thing twice. Any veggie meal is made very hearty with a sprinkle of nuts. Try to stay clear of the plantars "roasted salted" varieties. Go with Trader Joe's more wholesome nuts.

Learn a couple of quickly put together "staple" meals for yourself. Such as a grilled portobello sandwhich. A tofu scramble. Brown basmati rice and steamed veggies. Wraps are very easy. Make hummus your friend. Learn how to make it!

Don't be afraid to "spice up" your veggies with seasonings. Don't make mom do all the work either. Be proactive. Get in that kitchen and learn. Ask your mom how to make flavorful veggies.

Save your pennies and buy either tofu or tempeh when you can. Fix something fantastic. Your mom will change her mind. Save your pennies for condiments like Miso Mayo. you can use it to jazz up a salad, a sandwhich or some veggies that just didn't quite turn out flavorful.

Just stick with all the pastas etc. you would normally eat, but do not add things like cheese. Make sure you are eating legumes and tofu and a wide variety of the things you are allowed to have.

It could be difficult to be a vegan without any support. Might I suggest dropping things slowly until you are old enough to have a job? You have your entire life to be vegan.
:)
Start with eggs perhaps... no substitutes needed... or only milk or only cheese. Perhaps even spend this year getting all the leather, wool, suede, angora, down etc. out of your wardrobe. You could even start focusing on the meat *code words* like gelatin, mono%diglycerides etc.

Good luck. If you do it all now, then good for you, but being vegan is a life-long journey; there is no reason you cant take steps now instead of the whole leap.
When you turn 16 you can be in control of the foods you have.

Until then, maybe you can start asking for chores to do around the house. You can get allowance or vegan goodness on the shopping list as your reward.

Hi,
You don't need to buy lots of expensive vegan alternatives to be a vegan. Eat a variety of foods such as veggies, fruits, grains, nuts, legumes etc.

Look out for animal derived products found in food and other products. The following lists may help.

fruits and vegetables aren't enough to supply the proper nutrition a person needs to survive.
rice isn't too exspensive. veggie stir fry is delicious.
spaghetti marinara. pasta.
bean burritos.

or you could buy all your vegan alternatives yourself.
