First of all there are different types of vegetarians.
An ovo-lacto vegetrarian would eat dairy and eggs, a lacto-vegetarian would eat dairy but no eggs. Some do some don't.

Generally it is acceptable for a vegetarian to eat eggs. The eggs we eat are not fertalized, they would NEVER grow into a chicken. However at the same time they are still pretty close to meat in a way.
They are on a borderline edge so it is really pretty much up to each individual.

Some vegetarians also choose to eat vegetarian fed eggs. These eggs mean the chickens were fed no animal by products, just seeds and grain. (Since when do chickens need to chow down on cows.) At the same time most of these are cage free/free range and have access to outdoors and so could easily be eating bugs and worms which would mean they are not totally eatting a vegetarian diet per say. But again its each individuals preference.

Most/many vegetarians eat eggs. It's vegans who dont.

And the egg isn't "about to be meat". The eggs you buy in the store are not fertile. If it were left with the chicken who laid it, it would simply rot. It would never become a chicken, even if placed in an incubator. In fact, after a few days, the chicken would probably kick it out of the nest anyway, knowing there is no chick inside.

Vegetarians usually eat things with eggs in e.g cakes etc. but usually if you don't eat eggs, it is because you are a vegan [the egg came from a chicken].
But i think it would be okay for your friend to eat the egg because it's not yet a chicken.
xoxo

I am a vegetarian and I eat eggs. A vegetarian means you don't eat anything with meat but that does not mean we can't eat stuff from animals like eggs, milk, butter, and cheese. Also if you don't eat meat or stuff that came from animals your a vegan.

It depends on what kind of vegetarian he is. If he is a vegan or lacto-vegetarian then it's considered "breaking the rules".

And it also depends on whether the egg is fertilized. If it is fertilized then it depends on where he draws the line between an egg and a formed chick.

If you are a lacto-ovo or ovo-vegetarian then you may eat eggs. However, most eggs are not fertilized, so they would never become a chick if you just kept the egg and tried to incubate it anyway.

Female animals (including humans) are always making eggs. They won't become alive if they are not fertilized.

I saw an add for vegetarian eggs. Don't ask me what's that supposed to mean but if you are vegetarian you might still eat eggs and milk products; if you are a vegan you can't do all that, that's purely herbivorus...
